Delta Mandara 25962LF-SS - why handles backwards?

Had someone install this for me. Faucets turn on by pushing back instead of pulling forward. Is that correct or are they on backwards?

Answer: 
Thank you for your question. Based on your description, it sounds like the cartridges for your Delta Faucet model # 25962LF-SS are not installed correctly. We recommend turning off the water and then removing the handles. Make sure the notches on the handles are both on the right side of the holes. If this is not the case, pull out the cartridges after removing the bonnet nuts and turn them around. Replace everything the way it went in and they should turn the towards the faucet.

Why do the handles turn backwards?

We had a handyman install 2 of these faucets and on both the handles turn backwards. What is the "right" way to correct this?
