Replacing old model trim with new trim

I have a very old delta classic garden tub trim set (see pictures). I would like to remove this old trim and replace it with new, modern trim. But I have no access to underneath the tub deck. I can see how to get the handles off easily, but the current spout has no set screw on the outside. There are 4 screws on the underside of the spout (see picture), 2 of which I've removed. But before I go too far, I want to make sure this old spout can be removed from the top, without having access to underneath the tub deck. I assume there might be some sort of release under the underside plate, but I have read one other blog where the person said there was not a way to release the spout even after removing this underside plate. Is the only way to get this spout off by having access to underneath the deck?

Answer:
Hi Bruce, Thank you for your question. The pictured roman tub spout cannot be removed from above the deck. The spout has a threaded pipe with a nut that tightens the spout to the deck that can only be accessed from underneath. Our current trims will not work with your existing rough in valve, the entire faucet would have to be replaced.
Thanks,
Dave

Answer:
Hi Safetyguru767, Thank you for your question. You can change out the handles on your model 2705 faucet. There are both knob and lever style handles available. If you switch to a lever style handle make sure to order the RP20184 retention screws that are used to strengthen where the lever handles attach to the stem.
Thanks,
Dave
