what size hole should be cut out in the backerboard/tile for this valve

I am now installing the hardibacker for my shower. Do I cut a square hole around the black plastic piece, or just a circular hole around the other thin plastic cover? Does the square black plastic piece stay in place or do I remove it? Also, as currently installed, the front of the square black plastic piece will be end up being 1/8" to 1/4" behind the finished front face of the tile-is this ok?

Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # R10000-UNBX needs a hole size big enough for the valve to fit through but not too big so that it can't be covered up by the escutcheon plate. If a trim recommend R10000-UNBX, can I use R10000-UNWS instead?

Hi Chris,The R10000-UNBX and the R10000-UNWS are completely interchangeable. The only difference between the two is that the R10000-UNWS has screwdriver stops which allow the user to be able to turn the water off to the valve for maintenance without having to turn the water off to the entire home.

Hi Ed!The difference between the R10000-UNBX and the R10000-IP is the type of pipe used in the installation. The R10000-UNBX can be used with copper, pvc, pex or iron pipe; whereas, the R10000-IP is made specifically for an installation with iron pipe.

Thank you for your question. Your Addison tub faucet contains a rotational limit stop. that may need adjusting to allow more hot water to flow through the valve. Included here are the instructions for adjusting the limit stop. The first one is if you have a 1700 series faucet with a temperature knob and volume control that are separate. I have a 3 function value. Shower head and hand held shower. When I go to position 1 and 2, water come out from hand held unit, 3 is for shower head.

R10000-UNBX Has a minimum Spec for the tub spout of 8", Can I make it 6 1/2 inches
I am doing a three knob retrofit on a tile wall, the distance from the center of the valve to where the old tub spout is about 6 1/2 inches not the specified minimum of 8". I am using a R10000-UNBX , with the escutcheon and a T17430-H2O trim kit. It will be a lot of extra work to get the 8 inch minimum distance from the center of the valve to the tub spout, is this a strict minimum dimension? Is there something I can do, such as wider or narrower pipe to the spout and only have a 6 1/2 inche distance from the center of the valve to the spout. The shower function(Not The Tub) will be used 99.9% of the time,

Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, this has to be the measurement. It needs to be between 8" and 18" or you will probably have shower rise. Shower rise means the water will rise up and come out the showerhead when you are trying to use the tub spout only.Skill Level: Advanced

How do I determine which style valve I need (R10000-???)
Replacing existing rough valve that broke (moron who installed originally did not use stringer to support, valve just hung in mid-air by copper tubing). I have copper 1/2" tubing w/ soldered connections, Delta T13 Series Tub & Shower. Access to the back of valve through 2x4 framed wall w/ drywall. Fiberglass one-piece tub/shower.
