Frequently Asked Questions

Cleaning And Care

Can drain openers cause damage to finishes?

In most cases, the finish is safe if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and make sure the drain cleaner isn’t left on the finish for longer than 30 minutes.

How can I clean and/or remove mineral deposits from my shower head?

  • Touch-clean® Shower Heads - wipe the face of the shower head (rubber nubbins) to loosen and break away deposits. Learn more about Touch-clean.
  • Non Touch-clean shower heads or stubborn deposits - unscrew the shower head and soak it in a 50/50 vinegar and water solution for several hours. For stubborn deposits, rub with a toothbrush.

How can I remove mineral deposits from my aerator?

  • Remove the aerator.  Soak it in vinegar overnight, then flush with water.
  • For stubborn deposits, rub with a toothbrush.

How do I keep the surface of my shower base clean?

We recommend cleaning your shower base with a non-abrasive and/or non-caustic cleaner to prevent scratching or dulling of the finish.

How should I clean or maintain the finish on my faucet?

Always blot dry any water from faucet surface. Allowing water to evaporate on the surface can lead to build up of mineral deposits. Cleaning with a damp non-abrasive sponge and buffing it dry with a clean soft cloth should help keep your product looking beautiful. To remove water spots, use warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Hard water stains may be removed using a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water.  Make certain that you rinse thoroughly with water afterward.

If additional cleaning is required, all of our finishes may be cleaned with the following household cleaners: Formula 409® Antibacterial All Purpose Cleaner, Fantastik® All Purpose Cleaner, or Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, when used according to the manufacturers' instructions for use.

Avoid using the following which can damage your finish:

  • Avoid industrial cleaners and abrasive cleaners, such as those used for toilet bowls, green Scotch-Brite heavy duty scrub sponges, Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner and Lysol Basin Tub, Soft Scrub, and Tile Cleaner.
  • Avoid products that state on the label that they remove tarnish and rust, and those containing hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and/or phosphoric acids and caustic agents.
  • Avoid harsh abrasives or polishes
  • Avoid bleach-based cleaners

Hi Need to Clean, Thank you for your question. Mild soap and water is recommended to clean the faucets. If you have hard water/mineral build up a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water is recommended for cleaning the faucet.

How do I remove "white build up" from faucet???

I have the Victorian collection throughout my house and have a build up of white stuff around the base of the faucets. I assume this is a hard water build up. Is the 50/50 vinegar solution safe for the Venetian bronze finish?

Thank you for your question. Using the 50/50 solution of white vinegar and cold water is safe for your Venetian Bronze finish. You can soak a towel, and then wrap it around the affected area leaving it overnight.

How to clean the mold in the aerator of my kitchen faucet?

I have a Talbott #16968-SSSD-DST faucet. We saw mold twice and cleaned with toothbrush on the outside of the spout and keeps coming back within weeks. Not sure how I can remove the aerator and clean. Please let me know how to remove and clean the aerator well so that the mold will not come back frequently. Do you think there is mold in the tubing?

Answer:
Thank you for your question. To remove the aerator for cleaning, you will need the wrench that was included in the box. If this has been misplaced, it can be ordered and purchased through your local retailer with model # RP52217. We would recommend soaking it in a mild bleach solution to kill the mold.

Answer:
Are you sure it's mold you're seeing? It's very unusual for mold to grow in this area of a faucet unless it's infrequently used.

Answer:
Thank you for your post. We have not tested wax paper on our Brilliance Stainless Steel finish but we do not think it would hurt it. We also do not believe that it would help keep the finish shiny.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. We would recommend a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water left soaking in a towel wrapped around the affected parts overnight. Depending on the build-up, you may have to do it more than once. This should dissolve the mineral deposits.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. White Vinegar and water in a 50/50 solution with a little heavy on the vinegar usually does the trick. We recommend leaving the solution on for a while to dissolve the minearal desposits. You might want to soak a towel with the solution and wrap it around the affected parts.

Thank you for your question. To remove hair from a drain, there are tools available like snakes to get it out. There are also chemicals solutions on the market for hair removal. If the drain is really clogged, you may want to contact a plumber in your area.
