How do I remove my bathroom sink drain stopper for cleaning?

If a stopper does not lift straight out, it is being held in by the horizontal rod. Behind the drain pipe under the sink is a horizontal rod connected to the lift rod via the strap. The horizontal rod is held in place by a nut. Remove the nut and pull the horizontal rod straight away from the pipe about an inch. The stopper should now come free of the
drain.

How do I remove my tub drain stopper for cleaning?

There are two types of tub drain stoppers - lift & turn and toe tap.

Lift and Turn

The lift & turn stopper for the bathtub unscrews counterclockwise while in the full up position.

Toe Tap

The toe tap stopper also unscrews counterclockwise while in the full up position.  However, the cap may unscrew from the plunger assembly before the entire stopper comes out. In that case, there is a nut that will be exposed and can be used to unscrew the plunger assembly from the drain.

If either of these is "spinning" without unscrewing, the threads are stripped and you would need to exert upward pressure while unscrewing in hopes of uncoupling this from the bath waste. If that doesn't work you would have to unscrew the bath waste flange from the drain pipe.

This will require access under the tub.

I have watched all the U Tube video on the subject. The top part of the plug turns off but there is no screw inside to disconnected the shaft. Also I tried pulling it up and turning the plug counter clockwise with no luck. Tried looking to see if there was a set screw inside on the shaft but can't see as there is not enough space to get a good look. Not sure what else I can do? Please advise.

Answer:
Hi David C, Thank you for your question. If you need the gasket that is part of the stopper assembly it is not available as a separate item. It can be ordered as part of the RP16686 stopper assembly.

Answer:
Hi Kateg, Thank you for your question. There is not a way to modify the drain assembly that comes with the Tolva faucet to work with your no overflow sink. We recommend using our model 72172 push pop up less overflow.

Push pop-up drain height adjustment

I have a Delta 72172-SS drain. Due to the bevel of the sink, the drain cap must be partially unscrewed to allow for full travel. Can the height of the internal drain threads be adjusted to allow the cap to be screwed in fully?

Answer:
Hi TJ, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately there is not a way to adjust the internal threads on the model 72172-SS drain assembly. Our model 33W576SS push pop drain assembly does not have the larger sized plunger and may work better for your application.

Dave

Don't have model number, but it is about 3 years old. if I look underneath the stopper, there appears to be a set screw on the shaft of the drain stopper. I tried to loosen this screw but it was too tight, or just stuck from years of use.

Answer:
Hi Brenda, Thank you for your question. You can order a metal pop up assembly as a replacement part. The RP5651 is the pop up assembly and lift rod, the RP26533 is the pop up assembly with no lift rod included. Make sure to order in the appropriate finish to match your faucet.
Thanks,
Dave

Answer:
Hi Concerned, Thank you for your question. You do not need to put anything on the threads of the flange. You do want to put silicone on the underside of the flange to help seal it to your sink.
