Frequently Asked Questions

Cleaning And Care

Can drain openers cause damage to finishes?

In most cases, the finish is safe if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and make sure the drain cleaner isn’t left on the finish for longer than 30 minutes.

How can I clean and/or remove mineral deposits from my shower head?

  • Touch-clean® Shower Heads - wipe the face of the shower head (rubber nubbins) to loosen and break away deposits. Learn more about Touch-clean.
  • Non Touch-clean shower heads or stubborn deposits - unscrew the shower head and soak it in a 50/50 vinegar and water solution for several hours. For stubborn deposits, rub with a toothbrush.

How can I remove mineral deposits from my aerator?

  • Remove the aerator.  Soak it in vinegar overnight, then flush with water.
  • For stubborn deposits, rub with a toothbrush.

How do I keep the surface of my shower base clean?

We recommend cleaning your shower base with a non-abrasive and/or non-caustic cleaner to prevent scratching or dulling of the finish.

How should I clean or maintain the finish on my faucet?

Always blot dry any water from faucet surface. Allowing water to evaporate on the surface can lead to build up of mineral deposits. Cleaning with a damp non-abrasive sponge and buffing it dry with a clean soft cloth should help keep your product looking beautiful. To remove water spots, use warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Hard water stains may be removed using a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water.  Make certain that you rinse thoroughly with water afterward.

If additional cleaning is required, all of our finishes may be cleaned with the following household cleaners: Formula 409® Antibacterial All Purpose Cleaner, Fantastik® All Purpose Cleaner, or Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, when used according to the manufacturers' instructions for use.

Avoid using the following which can damage your finish:

  • Avoid industrial cleaners and abrasive cleaners, such as those used for toilet bowls, green Scotch-Brite heavy duty scrub sponges, Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner and Lysol Basin Tub, Soft Scrub, and Tile Cleaner.
  • Avoid products that state on the label that they remove tarnish and rust, and those containing hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and/or phosphoric acids and caustic agents.
  • Avoid harsh abrasives or polishes
  • Avoid bleach-based cleaners

Clogged Kitchen Sprayer, not sediment

I took out the aerator from my kitchen faucet and found many grains of something from this new installation. I figure that is what is also clogging my sprayer causing water to head in different directions and in some cases a trickle.
the Aerator was easy with the tool. how do I get the sprayer out to clean behind the sprayer outlets. CSR won't do because this is not a calcium or deposit issue but a granular issue.

How can I keep water spots off my fixtures?

I have read on Pinterest that rubbing wax paper on my faucets, etc will keep them shiny and without water spots. Is this a good idea or would I ruin my brilliance stainless finish?

Thank you for your post. We have not tested wax paper on our Brilliance Stainless Steel finish but we do not think it would hurt it. We also do not believe that it would help keep the finish shiny.

Thank you for your question. We would recommend a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water left soaking in a towel wrapped around the affected parts overnight. Depending on the build-up, you may have to do it more than once. This should dissolve the mineral deposits.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. White Vinegar and water in a 50/50 solution with a little heavy on the vinegar usually does the trick. We recommend leaving the solution on for a while to dissolve the minearal desposits. You might want to soak a towel with the solution and wrap it around the affected parts.

Allora 989-SSSD Faucet Squeaks

I purchased an Allora 989-SSSD kitchen faucet in 2008 and recently the faucet head has started to squeak when it is turned. I tried to lubricate it externally with a silicone spray, but that did not help. Is there a way to lubricate the faucet without disassembling it?
