Frequently Asked Questions

Finish

Can drain openers cause damage to finishes?

In most cases, the finish is safe if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and make sure the drain cleaner isn’t left on the finish for longer than 30 minutes.

Can I get a particular faucet in a different finish than what is available at the store?

Many stores can order Delta® faucets that are not stocked or displayed in the store. Ask the plumbing department manager or store manager for assistance with Delta special order.

You also can preview a large assortment of Delta models in many finishes in the Online Catalog.

What are the various finishes that are available for Delta products?

The finishes available vary from product to product, so not all products are available in all finishes. The Product Catalog section of our website will allow you to select a product, see what finishes are available for that product, and actually view the product in each of those finishes. Other than chrome, each finish has a two-letter suffix in the faucet model number. A summary of finishes and their two-letter suffix is below:

What is a Brilliance® finish?

Brilliance® finishes, designed to not corrode, tarnish or discolor for a “like-new” look for life, are developed by embedding molecules deep into the faucet’s surface, creating a bond that is virtually indestructible. This process is known as Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD). Delta was the first manufacturer to offer this patented process that creates a bond that's virtually indestructible with an incredibly reflective shine. Brilliance resists abrasions and discoloration better than traditional special finishes and, in many cases, better than chrome.

In independent tests using the harshest drain cleaners, the Delta Brilliance drain retained its appearance, while its competitors did not come close. Tested with over 100 household cleaners, the abrasion resistance of the Brilliance finish can even withstand repeated scouring with steel wool. A Brilliance finish is guaranteed not to corrode, tarnish or discolor for as long as you own your home. It can even withstand prolonged exposure to harsh coastal environments.

Learn more about the Brilliance Anti-Tarnish Finish process.

What makes a Brilliance® finish unique?

Delta's Brilliance® finishes are more durable than traditional clear coating. These beautiful finishes, which give your home an instant decorator look, won't corrode, tarnish or discolor. They are designed to look like new for life. The finish was tested against more than 100 common household cleaners. Brilliance will even withstand prolonged exposure to hard water or sea air.

Why do I have pin holes in my spout?

Pin holes in a Delta faucet spout are usually caused by "dezincification," which is the removal of zinc from the brass due to salt solutions, brackish water, mildly acidic solutions and poorly grounded plumbing systems. When the zinc is removed, the copper is redeposited to these areas and the surface of the part. The redeposited copper is a weak mass that is porous and fragile.

If this has happened, you will need to replace the spout. To determine the spout part number for your faucet model, contact your Delta plumber or showroom, or e-mail us.

Why is my Polished Brass tarnishing or peeling?

Traditional Polished Brass finishes were coated with a clear coating to inhibit tarnish. Over time, this clear coat can be broken or scratched with regular wear and tear, abuse or chemical attack, causing the finish to tarnish or the coating to peel. Unfortunately, it's not possible to repair the clear coat so you will need to replace any parts of your faucet that are tarnished or badly scratched.

Why is the finish deteriorating on my faucet's spout, handles and aerator?

Normally, finish deterioration is due to years of wear and tear, abuse or chemical attack. There is no repair once the finish is damaged, however you can replace many of common faucet parts where the finish deterioration is most noticeable.

To determine the parts you need, contact your Delta plumber or showroom. You can e-mail us for assistance, or call 1-800-345-DELTA (3358).

Hi JC, Thank you for question!
The Arctic Stainless finish is a brushed Silver with a blueish tint to it. It is comparable to the Stainless finish you see on new appliances these days.

Hi Cj, Thank you for your question!
The Arctic Stainless finish has a cooler, more bluish tone than the Stainless Steel finish ( which has a yellowish tone to it). The Arctic Stainless finish is closer to the newer Stainless Steel appliances you see today.

brilliance stainless vs arctic stainless

I decided on purchasing the Saville pull down kitchen faucet in the Brilliance Stainless finish. I was browsing Air Gaps and found one I liked in Arctic Stainless. Chrome would be too noticeably different. How much of a difference will there be if I purchase the Air Gap in A.S. and the Saville faucet in B.S.? I need to make a quick decision because my countertop guys are waiting on me! Thanks!

Answer:
Hi Linda,

Thank you for your question. Always blot dry any water from faucet surface. Allowing water to evaporate on the surface can lead to build up of mineral deposits. Cleaning with a damp non-abrasive sponge and buffing it dry with a clean soft cloth should help keep your product looking beautiful. To remove water spots, use warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Hard water stains may be removed using a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Make certain that you rinse thoroughly with water afterward.

If additional cleaning is required, all of our finishes may be cleaned with the following household cleaners: Formula 409® Antibacterial All Purpose Cleaner, Fantastik® All Purpose Cleaner, or Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, when used according to the manufacturers' instructions for use.

Hi Patty,

Thank you for your question. The Polished Nickel finish is shiny like Chrome, but with a warmer hue. Luxe Nickel is a brushed finish, which will be very similar to Satin Nickel.

Cassidy Collection faucets and accessories

I want to purchase the Cassidy Collection faucets and accessories and I noticed that some pieces of the collection are labeled "polished nickel" while others are labeled "brilliance polished nickel". Is there truly a difference or are they the same finish but just labeled a bit differently?
