Frequently Asked Questions

Finish

Can drain openers cause damage to finishes?

In most cases, the finish is safe if you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use and make sure the drain cleaner isn’t left on the finish for longer than 30 minutes.

Can I get a particular faucet in a different finish than what is available at the store?

Many stores can order Delta® faucets that are not stocked or displayed in the store. Ask the plumbing department manager or store manager for assistance with Delta special order.

You also can preview a large assortment of Delta models in many finishes in the Online Catalog.

What are the various finishes that are available for Delta products?

The finishes available vary from product to product, so not all products are available in all finishes. The Product Catalog section of our website will allow you to select a product, see what finishes are available for that product, and actually view the product in each of those finishes. Other than chrome, each finish has a two-letter suffix in the faucet model number. A summary of finishes and their two-letter suffix is below:

What is a Brilliance® finish?

Brilliance® finishes, designed to not corrode, tarnish or discolor for a “like-new” look for life, are developed by embedding molecules deep into the faucet’s surface, creating a bond that is virtually indestructible. This process is known as Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD). Delta was the first manufacturer to offer this patented process that creates a bond that's virtually indestructible with an incredibly reflective shine. Brilliance resists abrasions and discoloration better than traditional special finishes and, in many cases, better than chrome.

In independent tests using the harshest drain cleaners, the Delta Brilliance drain retained its appearance, while its competitors did not come close. Tested with over 100 household cleaners, the abrasion resistance of the Brilliance finish can even withstand repeated scouring with steel wool. A Brilliance finish is guaranteed not to corrode, tarnish or discolor for as long as you own your home. It can even withstand prolonged exposure to harsh coastal environments.

Learn more about the Brilliance Anti-Tarnish Finish process.

What makes a Brilliance® finish unique?

Delta's Brilliance® finishes are more durable than traditional clear coating. These beautiful finishes, which give your home an instant decorator look, won't corrode, tarnish or discolor. They are designed to look like new for life. The finish was tested against more than 100 common household cleaners. Brilliance will even withstand prolonged exposure to hard water or sea air.

Why do I have pin holes in my spout?

Pin holes in a Delta faucet spout are usually caused by "dezincification," which is the removal of zinc from the brass due to salt solutions, brackish water, mildly acidic solutions and poorly grounded plumbing systems. When the zinc is removed, the copper is redeposited to these areas and the surface of the part. The redeposited copper is a weak mass that is porous and fragile.

If this has happened, you will need to replace the spout. To determine the spout part number for your faucet model, contact your Delta plumber or showroom, or e-mail us.

Why is my Polished Brass tarnishing or peeling?

Traditional Polished Brass finishes were coated with a clear coating to inhibit tarnish. Over time, this clear coat can be broken or scratched with regular wear and tear, abuse or chemical attack, causing the finish to tarnish or the coating to peel. Unfortunately, it's not possible to repair the clear coat so you will need to replace any parts of your faucet that are tarnished or badly scratched.

Why is the finish deteriorating on my faucet's spout, handles and aerator?

Normally, finish deterioration is due to years of wear and tear, abuse or chemical attack. There is no repair once the finish is damaged, however you can replace many of common faucet parts where the finish deterioration is most noticeable.

To determine the parts you need, contact your Delta plumber or showroom. You can e-mail us for assistance, or call 1-800-345-DELTA (3358).

Hi Kim, Thank you for your question!
Luxe Nickel is comparable to Brushed Nickel and Stainless Steel. All of the finishes are a dull silver with brush strokes.

Hard water buildup

Hard water is causing some blockage of the holes in my model D56613SS shower head, Is it okay to soak it for a while in cleaning vinegar to clear the holes or would it affect the finish? I have used this on other faucets without a problem.

Arctic Stainless has a slightly different color than Stainless Steel. Over the years, the color of stainless steel used on appliances and sinks has migrated from warmer tones, with more red in the color spectrum, to lighter tones where blue is more predominant. Arctic Stainless features cooler metallic tones, following a trend seen throughout the kitchen.

Answer:
Well, I tried to replace my 2008 Delta Allora stainless steel kitchen pull down faucet with a new one (it was dripping and there are no parts for that model year), but the replacement is in 'Arctic Stainless Steel' (like most current Delta models).

The problem is that 'Arctic Stainless' is MUCH BRIGHTER / SHINNIER than the old good stainless steel we have on all our kitchen appliances. It feels like a 'brushed chrome' - at best. MY wife is definitely not a happy camper about that, I may have to throw the replacement out.

Do any of Delta's finishes match Brizo's brushed nickel?

I am interested in the Brizo traditional hand shower with slide bar (Model Number: 85710-BN) in brushed nickel to match the Brizo shower head and controls. The hand shower only comes with a single function and I want a multi-function hand shower on a slide bar. I believe that Brizo's multi-function head is only available as a wall mount. Delta has multi-function hand showers on a slide bar but the stainless steel in Delta is not as yellow as the Brizo's brushed nickel. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your question. Our Stainless Steel finish is very close to brushed nickel. However, we do not have a finish the matches it exactly.

Hi Lina,

Thank you for your question! The finishes are similar but not the same. Venetian Bronze is a dark brown color with copper colored markings throughout it. Oil Rubbed Bronze is even darker, approaching black, and has copper only on the corners and edges of the faucet.

Thanks,
Jon

I have a Delta 1500 Series Shower Faucet, What are my options?

Hello,

I have a Delta 1500 Series Shower Faucet. I would like to upgrade the trim on it without upgrading the rough in valve. I have read I can upgrade to a 1700 series with a new cartridge and this allows me to fit a 17 series trim. Is it possible to fit a 14 series with a new cartridge? I find I like the 14 series product line a little better.

Thank you!

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your question! If the escutcheon screws are at 1 and 7 o'clock on the plate, you may use the RP32104 cartridge and any current T17 (not T17T) trim. Unfortunately, there is no way to update the trim to the 14 series using the 1500 series valve valve.

Thanks,
Jon

Can I update the trim finish on this shower?

I have attached a photo of a shower control unit. We have three of these in polished brass in our house and are looking to update the finish to bronze on two of them and brushed nickel/stainless on one. What series is my unit (1500?) Are there any trim kits available to update my shower without completely changing out valve? Thank you very much!

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately, based on the screw positions, you will need to install a new rough in valve in order to install a different trim.
