Frequently Asked Questions

Shower Bases

Do I need to pitch the floor toward the drain?

No.  The shower floor is designed to be pre-pitched toward the drain as long as the base is properly installed on a level subfloor.

How do I keep the shower base surface clean?

We recommend cleaning your shower base with a non-abrasive and/or non-caustic cleaner to prevent scratching or dulling of the finish.

Is it necessary to set the base in mortar or epoxy?

No.  The shower base is designed to rest directly on the subfloor.

What does my warranty cover?

All parts and finishes of the Delta® shower base are warranted to the original consumer purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the time periods listed below.  This warranty is extensive in that it covers replacement of all defective parts and even finish, but these are the only two things that are covered.

What is the trench cover made of?

The trench grate is made of stainless steel.

Who do I contact if I have a warranty issue?

Call 800.355.2721 -  The Delta Help Line is available between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. (EST), Monday through Saturday.

Will I need to cut the floor?

Yes.  A portion of the subfloor will need to be cut in the drain area to accommodate the lowest part of the trench drain.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your question about the Delta Classic Shower Pan. This is a direct to stud installation, you would not want to install it to cement board. Once the base is in, then you can install the cement board and tile. If you have further questions, feel free to call us at 800-355-2721 or email us at
