Investigator Turned Innovator: The Man Behind Delta’s H2Okinetic Technology®

The creator of Delta’s innovative H2Okinetic® showerhead never stops thinking about how to make your shower experience the best it can be.

Paul Patton’s background is more NCIS than This Old House. After getting a criminology degree from Santa Monica College in California, Patton joined the U.S. Army as an investigator and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. Unsure of what he wanted to do when his tour ended, he answered an ad for a job at a West Coast plumbing company. “I worked in a warehouse,” he recalls, “and the owner took me under his wing and taught me everything about plumbing. I loved it.”

On the Quest for Better

As senior research and technology/regulatory manager at Delta Faucet and, yes, the brains behind H2Okinetic Technology®, Patton strives to give people what they want and need, even if they don’t know what it is. “When you ask somebody, ‘What can we do to make your shower a better experience?’ they scratch their heads and say, ‘Can you make the handle a little bigger?’ They can’t articulate what they really need. So you watch them doing a task and that helps you understand and identify.”

Patton, a 30-plus-year veteran of the plumbing industry, can’t walk into a bathroom without his investigator mindset taking over. “I look at who made the faucet, who made the toilet. It drives me nuts!”
