Answer:
Hi Joe,

Thank you for your question. Before you begin, please make sure that the water supply is shut off to the home. You can then remove the handle by popping off the cover and removing the screw. Next, unscrew the sleeve and pull out the extender and stem unit. You can then use a pencil or Allen wrench to scoop out the seats and springs. Reassemble in the reverse order, making sure the spring goes into the valve with the wider end first and the seat on the smaller end.

Best regards,
Jon

Hi SLM, Thank you for your question. All of the faucets that use the RP1740 stem assembly would also use the RP4993 seats and springs to control the water flow.
Thanks,

I see "white" seat in my valve housing. Nylon?

Upon removing my RP24096 valve stem assemblies, I see a "white" seat in the bottom of the housing. Your RP4993 seat/spring photo shows a dark color replacement seat. I believe my seats are nylon, just like the material of the RP24096. Are the RP4993 seats going to work for me? How - what tool do I use to pull the nylon seats to measure their diameter to see if the RP4993 are going to work? Where is the dimensioned drawing of the RP4993 seals.

Answer:
Hi Frank, Thank you for your question. Based on your description it sounds like you have the RP8230 ceramic stem assembly with ceramic seat and spring, not the RP24096 and RP4993.

Answer:
Hi Jo, The older models of the 470 use the RP70 ball assembly, RP61 cam assembly, and the RP4993 seats and springs as the internal components. If the faucet is dripping from the spout changing the seats and springs should resolve the issue.
Since 2008 the model 470-DST uses the RP50587 valve cartridge to control the water.

Dave

If the seats or springs are cracked, split, dried-out can that cause water hammer when the toilet is flushed?

The toilet is right next to the tub.

Answer:
Hi Beahaven, Thank you for your question. Dried out seats would not cause water hammer. Water hammer occurs when a valve or other control device closes abruptly, causing the moving column of water inside a pipe to come to a sudden stop. The issue is more likely with the toilet than the tub/shower faucet.

Dave

There is a very small leak coming from the left hand faucet handle. Does the stem unit assembly (part # RP 25513), need to be replaced? Can this part be fixed in any way? Should I replace the seats and springs (part # RP4993) while I have the stem assembly out?

Answer:
Hi Art, Thank you for your question. Replacing the RP25513 stem assembly and the RP4993 seats and springs should stop the leak in your model 3530 faucet. There is not a stem assembly repair kit, the unit would need to be replaced.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Clentin, Thank you for your question. You should only use genuine Delta repair parts in your faucet. Failure to do so will void the warranty on your product. You will want to use the RP4993 seats and springs.
