Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Easy Conversion I replaced a brass crystal knob faucet with this conversion unit. The conversion was easy. My only problem is that the lever handle seems counterintuitive for hot and cold. With the old faucet, you turned the knob clockwise for cold. With the lever handle, clockwise is for hot. Since the H and C markers are on the top of the escutcheon, one would expect the top of the lever handle to point to the selected water temp, but the opposite is true. When the top of the handle points to C, the handle is turned clockwise, and you get hot water. I realize this orientation may be standard for lever handles. Our kitchen faucet is also clockwise for hot but at least it does not have H and C designations to confuse things. July 25, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Rejuvenation Upgrade! Looks fantastic, but a little difficult to upgrade. Had a 28 year old Delta crystal knob 600 system with push button diverter built into faucet valve. Took a little more work than expected. Had to replace push button diverter with brass plug. Now diverter built into new spout. Solid construction. New ball valve with seats. At first a little confusing on which way to turn handle. It should have some kind of arrow or mark at the top to point to H and C. The actual valve turns in the same direction as old valve, but you are turning it from the distal end. In the end, it works great and looks great. more modern. July 2, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent Quality but... This was really impressive quality, but I would expect nothing less from Delta. It is really heavy duty, and it appears that there are no plastic parts which is something I would expect from a lesser quality plumbing fixture. But, unfortunately I could not use it because our existing plumbing was so old that our old valve broke as my contractor tried to install this renovation piece. I can't really return it because it had been opened, so I am saving it for when I renovate the other bathroom. March 13, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Series 600 retrofit Our 22-year-old outdoor shower had started to leak and was showing wear. I searched the Delta website and ID'd this renovation kit. Although it is supposed to allow you to go from the crystal "snowball" knob to the more modern lever, it worked on our current lever install. I could have just bought pieces parts, but why not buy the entire kit and replace all the springs and washers, etc? Very little cost differential. Should be good for another 22 years! August 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy and attractive update to old Delta "crystal ball" shower control This Delta shower renovation kit is an easy way to update those old Delta shower controls to a more modern look. The internal function of the valve gets new valve seats and springs to go with the new control ball that fits the modern handle. This kit did the trick after several attempts to find retrofit handles at the local home improvement store which needed to be returned because they did not fit. It is well worth the investment. Rated 3 out of 5 by Handle won't tighten! Bought two of these recently for 2 showers and one works great!! The other loosens up after plumber adjusts it and seems to be more difficult to adjust from hot to cold and vice versa. We bought these renovation kits to keep from having to install new valves behind existing marble shower walls. Still trying to figure out if this one kit is defective or if more of a plumbing problem!! March 14, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Go with the Delta kit I bought 2 kits from another manufacturer at a lower price and could not get it to keep from leaking into the shower. Went ahead and bought the genuine Delta kits and had no problem with leakage, plus the noname kits had acrylic handles. The stainless handles look much more modern and will not get the green stuff growing in them like the acrylic handles did. September 4, 2015

Was Model 641 with "Ball" Classic Handle from the 1970s & 80s made from Chrome or SS?

I found a Delta Parts Catalog from 1983 & was finally able to determine the fixtures in my 2 bathrooms which were installed in mid-70s are both Models 641 with the "Classic" handle (RP90) on faucet & tub spout diverter has the same ball on it. Tub Spout is the upgraded Solid Brass Diverter (RP6021). I am not replacing the shower handle, valves, etc., because they are in good shape & I like the flexibility of the cam RP61 & ball assembly RP70. I found all other replacement parts for shower arm & bathtub drain.

I was not going to change the RP6021 tub spout as it functions fine & has the solid brass diverter in it instead of the plastic diverter that come with newer spouts. Unfortunately my plumber messed up the tub spout when removing it for tiling. He stripped the threads on the reducer & I can't get the reducer off to replace it as it is frozen in place & now my husband has messed up the finish trying to get the reducer/nipple out.

To date I have not been able to find discontinued tub spout RP6021 with the diverter in the back & the "ball" on stem, so I might have to use an alternative diverter spout. Hopefully I will be able to unscrew the "button" on a new spout & replace it with my "ball" which does screw off so it will match the faucet hardware.

My question may need to be answered by an old timer. In the 1983 catalog they only show Series 600 Model 641 coming in Chrome, Gold, & Satin Gold. I am unsure if my spout is Chrome. It sure looks like Stainless Steel & has lasted 42 years. In the old days when they listed Chrome, was it really Stainless Steel? I don't see any reference to SS anywhere in the Catalog.

If I order a new replacement tub spout with diverter, I am not sure whether to order Chrome or Brilliance SS?

So did they make SS in the mid-70s & call it Chrome, or is RP6021 really Chrome?

Hopefully some old Delta employee will know the answer to this question. I have attached pics from the 1983 Catalog & also one of my shower/tub setup.

Does anyone know if I can obtain RP6021 tub spout anywhere? Are there any hanging out in your Delta warehouse?

Thanks.

Hi Nancie,

Thank you for your question! Your tub/shower faucet is Chrome. Unfortunately, the RP6021 tub spout is no longer available. However, the RP17454 and RP5834 are metallic.

Renovation Kit - 600 series shower with "ball" handle

I'm wondering if there is a similar 600 series renovation kit that has the clear plastic ball handle, like this one (Knob - RP17451) rather than a chrome lever as is shown in this kit? Ideally if it came in Stainless/Brushed Stainless rather than chrome, that would be great!
My valve is definitely a 600 series, but it's a standalone, walk-in shower; home was built in approx 1986.

Hi Dave, Thank you for your question!
The RP54870 600 series renovation kit only includes the lever handle. You would have to order the RP17451 knob handle and RP212 ball assembly separate.

Hi NoClue,

Thank you for your question. This kit will work with older 600 series showers. 600 series models operate by tilting the handle up to turn the water on, and rotating right and left to adjust the temperature.

I do not know what series Delta shower I have. I want to change my chrome fixture to ss.

Will the Delta Renovation Kit 600 Series fit on my existing shower. I know I need to purchase the plug. Is it as simple as buying a tub spout with a pull up knob.

Hello John, Thank you for your question!
Your unit is our Delta 600 series tub/shower. The RP54870 renovation kit will work. You will need the RP2865 diverter plug to plug off the opening for your push button diverter and purchase either a pull up or pull down diverter tub spout.

Delta Renovation Kit - 600 Series Tub and Shower

Looks same as my 1600 series anti scald model. Can I replace with this unit?

I would like to update and change the color of my two showers from gold to chrome and gold to bronze.

This Delta Renovation Kit-600 Series Tub & Shower, including the escutcheon and screw hole locations look exactly like what I currently have.

The current fixtures, have the old crystal ball handle, however, it has what looks like the 1600 series anti scald cartridge instead of the ball.

Will this replacement kit work?

Hi John B, Thank you for your question!
The RP54870 600 series renovation kit will not work with the 1600 series unit. The only kit we have for the 1600 series is the RP77740 kit which is available in chrome only. To use any other trim you would need to replace the valve body behind your wall.

Best regards.

Are stops built in to the Delta 600 series?

Customer avatar

The hot and cold feed into the valve each have a screw driver slotted, threaded bolt in the center of a nut on each side of the valve. Are these stops or some kind of adjusters? Do I back off the nut to turn the screw? Problem is low hot water flow. Cold water O.K. I suspect a blockage on hot water side of ball valve.
Thanks in advance

Renovation Kit

Hi,

I have a picture of my tub and shower handles that were original with our home (1995). Will this renovation kit work to replace these? I see that I will need a plug for the diverter opening in the tub faucet. What other parts do I need?

Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your question! You have a 1500 series tub/shower unit. Unfortunately, we do not have a trim kit for 1500 series units with screw holes at 5 and 7 o'clock. However, we do have some replacement parts available. I have attached the parts diagram.

How to identify?

I don't know what series my shower controls are. Pretty much necessary information from what I'm reading. It has a round ball handle going left for hot and right for cold. Up for volume. I want to change handles to a newer design. I am enclosing a photo of one of them. You might see thread material at the top of the control. I also want to get new escutcheons

Thanks

Hi Jim, Thank you for your question!
I have determined you have our 600 series tub/shower. It is a discontinued unit and none of the current trims we offer will fit onto the existing valve body. However, we do manufacture a renovation kit part number RP54870. The kit comes with the escutcheon(face plate), screws, sleeve, dome shaped cap assembly, lever handle and internal parts. You will have to order your choice of shower head, shower arm, shower flange and tub spout separate. The kit is available in Chrome, Venetian bronze and Stainless Steel finish. The kit can be viewed on our website www.deltafaucet.com. I hope this information is helpful.
