Thank you for your question. We recommend using a diverter tub spout connected to the bottom port of the R10000 valve. However, you may connect a non-diverter tub spout to a port of the diverter valve as a toe-tester. Note that the flow rate will be reduced by about 1 GPM when compared with the bottom port of an R10000 Rough-In Valve. This setup would require an R10000 Rough-In Valve with a 13/14, 17, or 17T Tub and Shower Trim Kit and an R11000 Rough-In Valve with a 3 or 6-Setting Diverter Trim Kit.
Best regards, Jon
