Give Mom a Bathroom Makeover

Moms are masters of the a.m. hustle: They can wield a blow-dryer in one hand with a toothbrush in the other, and smudge out a decent smoky eye before the toaster pops. This year, give your mama her morning back: Send her out for the day, hit the home improvement store and beauty boutique, and turn her bathroom vanity into a luxe primp station.

Put a faucet on it: The biggest change you can make is to install a new faucet. Choose a finish that works with the overall bath—bronze, chrome, brass—and a style that fits her personality. (Hint: Delta’s new Ara collection is adorable and sleek.)

Tray chic: Choose an ornamental tray that matches her style—antique silver if she loves classic design, or clear Lucite for a mod mom—and corral her lotions and potions on top.

Rocks box: If she keeps her baubles close, add a small tiered jewelry box to store her earrings, bracelets and brooches. Place a sturdy ring holder nearby for the bands she wears frequently.

Everything in its place: Set out a trio of small, lidded canisters that keep cotton balls, swabs and bobby pins within reach.

Self-reflection: Hand mirrors have gone the way of corsets and rotary phones. Bring her makeup regimen into the 21st century with a lighted mirror—one with a glow that imitates natural light will ensure she’s selfie-ready.

Magic wands: If Mom’s beauty tools consist of travel-size sponges and department-store freebies, upgrade with a matching set of makeup brushes in a variety of sizes she can experiment with.

Scratch pad: Metal curling irons and straighteners can nick—or worse, burn—some surfaces. A silicone hair-tool pad puts a heatproof barrier between her counters and her CurlMaster9000.

Pump it up: Does she swoon over lavender-honey soap, or stock her beloved body butter in bulk? Buy a pretty pump and pour in her treasured softener.
