Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wont stay down Install was Not easy. Leaks. Had tonreassemble 5 times and finally CRANKED IT SOOOO TIGHT to keep water from getting past the stopper under sink. Purchased October 1999. Installed December 1999. In March 2020 the stopper no longer stays down so it is useless. Looks good, though, in down position. Too big for smaller sink as it is in the ways of washing hands when up/open position but IT LOOKS GOOOOOD in downnposition;big and bold. Had 3 good months with it. I cant find replacement top part anywhere and I do NOT intend of installing a new entire assembly. No way. Going MOEN in future.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice drain but no longer opens with push I’ve been very happy with this drain for the first two years. Looks good and seems sturdy but now it won’t pop open when I push. It’s been getting worse for the last year and now it seems permanently stuck down. It disassembled it and cleaned out and greased up the internal mechanism to no avail. I believe that it is worn just enough to keep it from working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and good quality product! We are very pleased with our purchase. It does need to be installed by a professional plumber.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks nice but doesn't drain well The drain stopper looks nice but it doesn't drain the water well; water piles up in the sink and after several seconds it drains. It seems like the hole is not large enough to pass water through. Can this be adjusted?!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pop up sink stopper won't pop up. When fully threaded in, pop up stopper wont pop up when pushed on. Got it to work by partially unthreading the pop up stopper. Same problem on two different stoppers. Delta broadmoor centerset pulldown lavatory faucet with included popup drain. I see that this is a repeat problem with other customers.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn’t last Remodeled bathroom 2 years ago and purchased delta faucets. The pop up works great but the first one corroded after a year. Replaced it. 2nd pop up in the other sink now corroded and snapped off. Guess I’ll buy another one or junk these and buy something else. Might as well spending the money on a different faucet design with new stoppers.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great drain stopper ... This is a great pop up drain stopper. Easily installed .. holds water well. I would suggest that Delta add maybe a 1/4 of an inch to the treaded end though.

Q&A

I have the Delta Push Pop 72173, and my cleaning person pulled the pop up part out....how do I put it back in?

Asked by: Dogma
Hi Dogma, Thank you for your question. The cap will screw onto the brass piece and the brass piece will screw into the flange. Best regards, Jon

if you use silicone under the flange, do you still use the rubber washer?

Asked by: bdo4
Thank you for your question, Bdo4! The gasket should provide a water tight seal in most applications. Silicone is not required, but may be used to help ensure a proper seal. We recommend to apply silicone around the under side of the flange. Best regards, Tanya

Is Delta 72173 Push Pop-Up with Overflow compatible as a replacement for the drain pop-up that comes with Delta Addison Faucet Model 592-DST?

Is the Delta 72173 Push Pop-Up with Overflow compatible as a replacement for the drain pop-up that comes with Delta Addison Faucet Model 592-DST already installed in our sinks? The pop-up on our Addison Faucets do not function well and our plumber recommended replacing them with a Push Pop-Up.
Asked by: R
Hi R, Thank you for your question! If you do not have enough room behind the faucet or under the sink to use the included drain, you may install a 72173 Push Pop-Up. However, the pop up will work independently of the faucet, so the lift rodin the back of the faucet will not be functional. You may either remove the lift rod or leave it in place. Best regards, Jon

Correct orientation of upper seal for 72173 push pop drain w/ overflow

What is the correct orientation/location for the upper seal of the 72173 push pop drain assembly? The shape of the upper seal gives impression that it should be installed into the sink's drain/overflow cavity by itself and then have the drain body passed through it ... or should it stay up against the flange (entire seal) so that both surfaces of the seal are between sink base and the flange?
Asked by: how-to
Dear How-to, Thank you for your inquiry! The top gasket of the Delta Push Pop-Up 72173 should sit directly under the lip of the flange assembly. The gasket should provide a water tight seal in most applications. Best regards, Tanya

Is there a pop-up drain like the 72173 with 1" longer threaded section?

I need a deeper (longer) threaded area than the 72173 has. That threaded section is 3" and my vessel sink bottom to the underside of the countertop is just slightly more than 3". Hopefully you have a model that has a longer threaded section or can suggest a way to extend the threaded section. I really don't want to have to grind the underside of the countertop, but that will be the option of last choice, if no other option is available. Thanks.
Asked by: oldclyde
Dear Oldclyde, Thank youf ro your question. Delta does not make a longer or different threaded drain body for the Delta Push Pop-Up Drain assembly 72173. All Delta drain assemblies fit sinks with standard 1 5/8"drain hole size. https://media.deltafaucet.com/SpecSheet/DSP-L-72173%20Rev%20B.pdf Best regards, Tanya
