Touch2O™ and Touch2O.xt™ Technology incorporate an automatic water flow shut-off. In the kitchen, it will shut the faucet off after four minutes if the water is left running with no activity. In the lavatory, it will shut off after one minute with no activity.

The best practices noted in the Maintenance & Installation Sheet are also summarized here:
- Use the stabilization plate provided with the faucet. (It is an insulator, which helps improve touch performance.)
- Use all other insulators—including the spout insulating element, spout insulator and spout base—provided with the faucet. (As stated in the Maintenance & Installation Sheet, there is one exception to this: The spout insulator cannot be used with thin-mounting surfaces, such as drop-in stainless steel sinks.)
- Make sure the metal shank is at least ½” from the wall of the sink bowl or other metal objects (e.g., sink clips, metallic hoses, house wiring, etc.)
- Separate the LED cable (black wire with the stereo plug) as much as possible from the red spout sensor wire. Bundling these wires together will decrease touch sensitivity, while separating them will increase touch sensitivity.
We also recommend that you:
- Place the battery pack as close to the floor of the cabinet as possible. (Place it flat on the floor for best results. This placement will help improve touch performance.)
- Maintain a 2” clearance around the battery pack (excluding the floor of the cabinet itself).
- Route faucet wires away from all hoses and supply lines, so they do not move when the spout is rotated or the spray wand is pulled out.
- Avoid placing household objects (e.g., sponges, soaps, decorations, etc.) within contact of the spout or handle.
- Modify the supplied parts. (There is one exception: The stabilization plate may be cut for non-standard hole spacing.)
- Use a power adaptor in lieu of the supplied battery pack.
- Bundle wires together.
We also recommend that you DO NOT:
- Connect the faucet or battery pack to anything that is acting as an earth ground (e.g., house wiring or water lines).
- Install the faucet on a metal countertop. (Metal sinks are fine.)
- Install the faucet within 4” of a metal backsplash behind the faucet.
- Wrap wires around drains.
No, you cannot use a power adapter in lieu of the supplied battery pack. The faucet is only designed for use with a battery pack and connection with a power adapter can damage the electronics in the faucet. Therefore, connecting a power adapter to a faucet that uses only a battery pack will void the warranty.
No. The installation process is just like installing a regular pull-down faucet with an addition of one more component and a few easy-to-connect wires. Because the faucet works on batteries, there is no need to hire an electrician to assist with the installation. Even the batteries are included in the box. With DIAMOND™ Seal Technology, the integrated supply lines mean everything is included in the box.
Touch2O® Technology will work with any sink material, including stainless steel. For best performance, metal countertops are not recommended for use with a Touch2O® Technology faucet. It is also recommended that you do not install the faucet within 4” of a metal backsplash behind the faucet. The Touch2O.xt™ faucets are best designed to work on non metallic sinks. If used on a metallic sink touching the sink could activate the faucet.
You control water flow manually with the handle, just as you would operate any standard faucet. When operating the faucet in “Touch” or hands-free mode, the water flow setting remains the same as the previous use.
You control the water temperature manually with the handle, just as you would any standard faucet. When operating the faucet in “Touch” or hands-free mode, the water temperature setting remains the same as the previous use.
To help you identify the manufacture date of your Pilar Touch2O faucet, Delta Faucet Company has used the following different labels as identifiers for when your faucet was manufactured.
- Gen 1 M&I - 60089 (Pre March 2009 980T models) Smaller blue label and includes "51723"
- Gen 1 M&I - 63440 (Pre March 2011 980T models) Smaller white label and includes "51723WH"
- Gen 2 M&I - 63653 (980T) Larger white label includes "62530"
Grounding is not required on any faucets with Touch2O Technology manufactured after February, 2009. If the solenoid does not have a green grounding wire (see image), it does not need to be grounded.
An LED indicator light at the base of the faucet will shine blue when the “Touch” feature is activated. If the handle is in the “off” position, you may tap the spout or handle to turn off the light. When using the faucet with hands free activation the blue light will flash so you know the faucet will turn off when you leave. At this point you can touch the faucet off if you need to turn it off.
You may choose to operate the faucet as you would any standard single-handle faucet by moving handle to the on and off positions. You may also tap it on and off with a deliberate touch, like that of playing the piano. If you have a Touch2O.xt™Technology faucet, the water flow is turned on by placing your hands within 4” of the faucet. To turn it off, you simply remove your hands from the 4” activation area.
Every person has a characteristic called capacitance. Capacitance is an electronic term that has units of measure called farads. Capacitors are electronic components that store electrical energy. A human body typically has 22 pico farads of capacitance. A result of this capacitance is often felt in the winter months via static discharges that occur when walking across a carpet and touching a metallic object. Walking across a carpet generates energy that is stored in the body’s capacitance. This energy is discharged when touching another object at a different voltage potential.
A capacitive touch sensor is basically a sensing device that measures capacitance in its environment. When a touch sensor is connected to the faucet, it first establishes a baseline level of capacitance. Once this is established, it then looks for an increase in capacitance that occurs when a person touches the faucet (the human body’s 22 pico farads). The sensor detects the increase in capacitance and either turns on water flow or turns off water flow. When the person releases the faucet, the decrease in capacitance is also detected.
Touches and grabs are distinguished by measuring the duration of the person touching the faucet. Touches are defined as being less than 300 milliseconds, and grabs as more than 300 milliseconds.
There are two capacitive touch sensors in faucets with Touch2O® Technology. The first touch sensor is connected to the handle and the second sensor is connected to the spout. If a touch sensor is connected to anything conductive (wire, metal sheet, metal bar, etc.) that conductive element becomes an extension of the touch sensor.
The first sensor is attached to the handle which is made of brass. Since brass is conductive, the entire handle of the faucet is a touch sensor. The second capacitive sensor is connected to the spout. As the spout is also made of brass, the spout is also a touch sensor. However, depending on what is defined as the spout, there may be two exceptions:
- At the base of the spout is a black plastic insulating ring. It’s function is to isolate the spout from a sink. This black ring is not touch sensitive.
- The pull down wand is isolated from the spout via an insulator. Because of the isolation, the pull down wand is not touch sensitive. This arrangement is intentional to provide the most intuitive operation of the faucet.
If there’s a cross-flow of hot and cold water, it could be that the check valves are not properly installed on the supply lines. Make sure the ferrules are screwed onto the check valves and that the hot and cold water lines each have a check valve installed.

If the handle or spout doesn’t respond to touch, check the batteries. Make sure the batteries are new and properly loaded in the battery box, and that power is available. For models made before February 2009 check that the grounding clips are connected properly.as described in the Maintenance and Installation Guide, and that the faucet is grounded to an electrical or plumbing line. Grounding is not required on faucets with Touch2O® Technology manufactured after February, 2009. If your faucet does not have a green ground wire, it may not require grounding. Check to be sure all electrical connections are solid.
It is possible that the spout is in electrical contact with the sink. Make sure the spout insulating elements are in place and, again, check for proper grounding.
The valve may simply not be turned on. Make sure the handle is in the ON position and that power is available.
It could also be that the user is not touching the faucet properly. Make sure the touch is not too long or too short — it should be deliberate, like striking a key on a piano. Don’t use fingernails or a dry cloth to touch the faucet.
Finally, the unit may need to reset. Disconnect the battery, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the battery.
If your faucet was manufactured before February 2009, the grounding clips may not be properly installed. Make sure they haven’t been bumped off with use and that they’re in the proper place and secured with tape. Also check for proper grounding. Note that grounding is not required on faucets with Touch2O Technology manufactured after February 2009. If your faucet does not have a green ground wire, it may not require grounding.
The spout may be in electrical contact with the sink. Make sure the spout insulating components are in place.
Remember too that the faucet automatically shuts itself off after 4 minutes on kitchens and 1 minute on lavatories if there is no activity.
With Lav products it is required that the popup is changed to the supplied non conductive popup. Also ensure that spout sense wire and LED wire are not making intermittent contact with metal parts under the sink. If problem persists, adhere LED wire, battery wire, and spout sense wire to the back of the cabinet.
If the LED does not come on, it may be there’s no power. Check the batteries.
The wires to the spout LED may have been disconnected. Follow the wires down from the spout to the electronics box, double checking they are securely attached.
The Touch20® Technology faucet features DIAMOND™ Seal Technology, which has PEX waterways. This means that the waterways are lead free so once inside the faucet, water does not come into contact with metal contaminants nor any of the specialized “Touch” components, alleviating any electrical safety risks. Touch20® Technology operates on 6-Volt batteries and according to electrical safety codes, anything less than 24V is considered safe.
Should your Touch20® or Touch2O.xt™ Technology faucet be activated accidentally, the automatic shut-off feature will stop the flow of water after four minutes on kitchens and one minute on lavatories if the water is left running with no activity.
Your Touch2O® or Touch2O.xt™ Technology faucet is powered by batteries, therefore the “Touch” and/or hands-free functions will still operate during a power outage. Even without battery power, the faucet will operate with manual function.
No. Touch2O® Technology is a sophisticated technology that can distinguish the difference between a tap and grasp by measuring the duration of the contact with the faucet. Touches are defined as being less than 300 milliseconds, whereas grabs are more than 300 milliseconds.

If the batteries are not replaced in time, the faucet will still function with manual operation.
