In one place it shows the drain as "push" to open and close the pop up drain. That should mean there is no stem located on the back of the faucet. Installation diagram shows a stem on the faucet. Is it stemless?

The installation sheet is a universal manual so it does work for other faucet installations. With our Delta 15899LF-SP the pop-up assembly does not have a lift rod and is only a push pop up.

Our Delta 15899LF-SP stopper can be removed by unscrewing the stopper from the middle of the drain assembly, counterclockwise.

is the body brass or zinc? All your specs say is "metal"

Unfortunately, we don't have a breakdown of the materials. The faucet is made of several materials which may include but are not limited to bronze, brass, zinc, stainless steel, copper, PEX-C, synthetic rubber, vinyl, nylon, and plastics.
