Drain sealing on acrylic tubs

I am installing one of these tubs for some friends and have a question about the drain sealing. The drain components seal against the top surface of the white acrylic and against the bottom surface of the black egg-crate. There does not appear to be any kind of seal between the white and black layers. What gives? I read of one plumber who trimmed back the black egg-crate to seal top and bottom on the white acrylic - sounds like a good idea but will this weaken the system? Would be very helpful if this information was in the instructions - even just one more sentence.

I’m replacing the flooring in my bathroom at the same time I am installing this tub. Does the tile go under the tub edge or next to it? In other words, does the tub sit flush on the subfloor with the tile next to it?

Asked by: MisoAlaskan
Hello MisoAlaskan, Thank you for your question on the Delta 60" x 32" Bathtub - Left Drain. I will be happy to assist you today. This tub is meant to be installed flat on the sub-floor. If you are installing tile, you will want to bring the tile next to the tub edge but not under it. I hope this has answered your question. If you ever have any questions, concerns, or require anything further please feel free to give us a call at 800-345-3358 and we will be happy to assist you in any way that we can.
