Sold product, challenging mounting system
Good solid grab bar, well styled. The mounting design introduces 2 issues: the bar mounts to the plates with a through bolt which must be perfectly aligned or it is a no-go. Secondly, the though-bolts are tightened from opposite sides, so there is no way to mount within 2" or an inside corner or flange (such as right outside a tub surround or tile that protrudes from the wall). Keep these in mind before you purchase.

Very nice finish and secure
Obviously a grab bar needs to be secure, or it wont do what it was designed to do, hold somebody's weight when they grab it. This one is solid. After mounting the bar on the wall, I felt like I could be confident that it will hold up the weight if my client needed it. It also has a very nice chrome finish, something you would expect of a much higher priced product. My client and I were very pleased with this item and I would use it again if needed.

Clean look
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this because it didn't look institutional. It blended well with my other Delta products which are also transitional. It is sturdy and just long enough to provide a grabhold without being obvious.

Extra security
We did not install this at an angle. It is on the wall horizontally to be used mainly as a towel bar, but I will be able to use it also as a secure hand-hold getting into and out of the tub without that institutional look some grab bars have. It looks great and compliments the Delta Lahara fixtures.

Poor quality, difficult installation
Very disappointing product. We have installed dozens and dozens of grab bars and this one was by far the most difficult and frustrating installation. The escutcheons were too large and fell loose. We had to silicone them to keep them in place.

Q&A
Could this also be used lower in the shower to prop a foot on for shaving? Would it hold the weight of a leg propped on it?
Thank you for your question, Linda! Model 41712-BL can be installed lower on the shower wall. This Assist Bar can provide support and increased stability for an individual weighing up to 500 pounds. Can this be used as a shower door handle?

Thank you for your question. The Delta 12" Transitional Grab Bar 41712-BL can be installed as a shower door handle, but would not be considered as ADA complaint. This unit is ADA compliant when installed as it is advised on the technical specifications and maintenance/installation guide. Wood blocking is preferable behind all wall surfaces for this unit install. If wood blocking is not available, the supplied fasteners are recommended. How do I remove the grab bar for the wall paper installation
Hello!
You will need to remove any set screws (often hidden by decorative covers or escutcheons), then use a screwdriver or drill to remove the mounting screws.

My Sterling walk in shower has backer boards behind all three walls. I think that the 2 and 1/2" wood screw may be to long for the boards, also my walls are made of Vikrell. What's best bit to use to drill into this material?
