Sturdy and Attractive
We purchased this grab bar as one component of the line of new plumbing fixtures we chose. Boy, are we glad. Not only does it blend in, but it doesn’t evoke the assumption that a handicapped person lives here. Our contractor graded the tile floor of our walk-in shower a little too steeply (it is like standing in a canoe without a paddle) and this grab bar restores a much-needed sense of safety.

Delta 41718 Transitional grab bar is difficult to install
Delta 41718 Transitional grab bar is difficult to install. I used professional installers who had installed grab bars. Each end of the bar has a plate that attaches to the wall separately, and the grab bar attaches to those plates. Each plate has a fixed collar with 2 holes that must EXACTLY align with 2 holes in grab bar handle. All 4 holes in the plate and the handle must align in a straight line for successful install. There is zero play in the plate/collar, so it is important to make marks on the plate and grab bar handle where they must align. Mark them after removing the hardware from the box but before separating plate from the grab bar handle. It is important to check the plate/collar position BEFORE drilling/attaching plate/collar to wall. No template was provided. Instructions were generic, not specific to this item. Installation sheet didn't show names of grab bar pieces, just tools and fasteners. Hardware seems sturdy and looks good (chrome). Due to difficulty of installation, would not recommend.

Make sure your wall is plumb and level
This grab bar is beautifully finished, quite hefty and will pretty good instructions. My problems began when I finally realized that the heads of the provided wood screws did not seat into the hole provided in the flange, so the unit wouldn't fit together. I had to drill out the holes (in the steel flange) to allow the heads to drop into the body of the flange. My wall also is not exactly flat, so the escussions wouldn't lay in place, I had to use construction adhesive to get them to stay in place. But after all that day used installing the bar, it is beautiful and only I will know what it took

Delta Grab Bars - Horrible Design
The wall-mount design is horrible. Without the hollow-wall anchor plate, the collar that hides the screws will not snap around the base. Delta engineers have been told about this flaw. The installation instructions for the 417xx product line are not accurate because they do not show how to appropriately install the wall mount on a stud. You might think this is simple until you try and install it and snap the collar ring in place...good luck!

Poor design
No template provided to install grab bar. Each mounting bracket has to be installed precisely in order for the screws to thread all the way through the bracket. Too difficult to install screws when they are right next to the wall. All around poor design, I expect better from Delta. .

Great investment for my bathroom remodels!
I purchased this grab bar for each of my new showers in my remodeled bathrooms thinking that even if I didn't need it, at least it would be installed for the homeowners who would own this house after me. Little did I know that I would be the one who would actually need it! Soon after these were installed, I learned that I need to have both my hips replaced. It is painful to walk and to transition from sitting to standing. Thank heavens for these grab bars! They definitely make my life easier! This design looks sleek and the bar itself is more of an oval shape rather than circular which is more comfortable in the hand. This model is part of a series in the Champagne Bronze color that Delta offers and it looks great with the shower head and other grab bars. Note the corner shelves with grab bars on top of them that are in the second picture here. In addition, I bought the towel bars with grab bars on top of them and toilet paper holders with grab bars on top of them. I particularly like that one item - a towel bar for instance - can also function as a grab bar with the grab bar on top of the towel bar and parallel to it. Great features with dual functions! And they all look sleek and beautiful! So glad I made these purchases!

Great fit
I just started using this and it is very sturdy and beautiful! It was a bit tricky to install, but now it will help me pull up and I'm a big girl! I have no worries about me pulling it out of the wall. We did add wood bracing behind the tile for extra support. It matches my fixtures and I love it! Very well made.

The Venetian Bronze finish on this Delta grab bar is really beautiful. It looks well made as well. It will look beautiful with my greige color porcelain. There are 3 vanity lights available and cabinet pulls too that will make everything match nicely.

How much weight is this grab bar designed to safely handle? I saw 500 pounds described on a 1 1/2 inch bar. What is this one designed for?

Assist Bars are NOT designed to support the total weight of an individual. Use the bar for assistance only remember to never use an assist bars if any looseness is noted.

Hello. We are looking at the 36" grabbar for bathroom renovation, but the grabbar is too long. The next size down is too short. Can we cut down the 36" bar and still affix it securely within the supports? We like both transitional and traditional styles

Can this be used on a custom glass shower door as a handle?
Looking for Champagne Bronze Glass Shower door handles and Hinges to match all the delta products we chose for a remodel.

Thank you for your question. This unit is only designed to be installed on the wall, with at least one end attached to a wall stud. We do not have a glass shower door handle in the Champagne Bronze finish.

Did the color of 41718-SS change slightly in 2023 or 2024? We bought our shower fixtures in 2023 and the SS code was described as Brushed Nickel which is slightly different than stainless. All our Brushed Nickel fixtures are coded SS.
