74208 How far does this bar stick out?

Just unpacked a 74208-CZ. In the pictures I noticed a a line on either end of the bar about 1” in. Now that it’s unpacked I noticed that the bar wobbles at both of these lines. What is the purpose of this? Does the bar expand?

The towel bar does not expand, but it is also available in 18" and 24". Please reach out if there is an issue with installing the towel bar securely. We are happy to help!
