Q&A

What is the meaning of "Universal?"

I have purchased one of these valves and want to use a trim kit by another maker. Is this valve compatible with other faucet makers? Do valve cartidges usually come with the trim kits?
Asked by: fixie
Hi fixie, Thank you for your question. This valve is only designed to work with Delta trim kits. The cartridge will be included with the trim kit. Best regards, Jon

shower only pex bottom outlet connection

I am replacing a 10+ years 1400 series old valve body in which I sheared off (poorly designed as seen in middle picture) the 3 copper pipes connecting the valve body frame to the cartridge receptor drum, while trying to replace the RP19804 cartridge due to dripping shower head. I bought the R10000-UNBX, as although all my pipes are PEX, I also would need elbow and outlet fittings anyway to reach my current pipe locations. This is installed opposite the showerhead wall, in a knee-wall topped with glass enclosure, so the top outlet was capped off, and the shower was fed from the bottom outlet (as seen in 1st and 3rd pictures). The old valve had a few inches of copper pipe before the PEX connection (1st & 3rd pic). I also notice the RP10000 instructions mention the tub outlet (which I am using for shower only) drop pipe must be 8-18 inches copper only. Is this initial copper length only required for the pull-diverter mechanism from bath-spout to shower, or is it still required in my application and why, or can I connect my PEX directly to the bottom outlet using an NPT-PEX adapter?
Asked by: Ismail
Hi Ismail, Thank you for your question. If you are using the R10000-UNBX in a shower only installation, with the tub outlet going to the showerhead you can hook up the pex tubing directly to the valve as pictured. The 8"-18" copper pipe installation does refer to the tub spout diverter specifically to prevent shower rise. Thanks, Dave

Why not have a PEX crimp port on the top port to the shower spout?  This would eliminate using an adapter. What am I missing?

Asked by: Scott101
Thank you for your question, Scott101. This version has PEX crimp connections on the supply lines. The tub and spout outlet ports have 1/2" NPT male thread with 1/2" C.W.T. female sweat connections. You may connect a PEX adapter to the shower port. For a tub and shower installation, the drop to the tub spout must be 1/2" copper or iron pipe. Best regards, Jon

Why can PEX not be used for the tub down spout? Even with a PEX drop-ear, it's still a no go? Is it because if the constant pressure from switching to shower mode?

Asked by: Kahnartist
Hello, KahnArtist! Thank you for your question. The drop from the valve to the tub spout must be 1/2" copper or galvanized pipe. Other types of piping, such as PEX, have a different internal diameter. This affects how the water flows through the pipe and can cause back pressure, which may cause water to flow from the shower head when the tub spout diverter is not engaged. Best regards, Jon

Are there any options for a matte black trim kit that DOES NOT have a valve included? I bought the valves during rough in and now just need trim kits. Thank you

Asked by: Burge Burge
Hi, Burge Burge! Thank you for your question. Any of our Delta Monitor and TempAssure trim kits that start with a 'T' will not include the valve body and only include trim only. Here is a link to our Matte Black trim kits: https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/showering/tub-and-shower-faucets?facetFinish=matteblack Best Regards, Rosanna

T14497-LHP H797SS 58467-SS WATCO 38190-NB push pull trim kit

How can I increase the water flow? Is there a water restrictor / screen that can be cleaned / removed?
Asked by: Allan
Thank you for your question, Allan. The 58467-SS has a flow rate of 2.5 GPM at 60 PSI. You can measure the flow by running the water into a bucket for 1 minute. Please check for debris at the shower arm connection as this can cause reduced flow. We do not recommend removing or modifying the flow restrictor. The flow rate from the tub spout or shower arm with a 14 series cartridge will be approximately 5.8 GPM at 60 PSI. If you get reduced flow here, please try flushing the valve according to the How-To Video linked below. https://www.deltafaucet.com/video-gallery/video-page?videoId=aHDE586LwYk Best regards, Jon

Can pex pipe be used to shower head with this rough-in valve (R10000-PX) by using the proper threaded pex adapter?

Asked by: CT3002
Hi, CT3002! Thank you for your question. A PEX line can be used at the application between the Delta R10000-PX rough valve and the shower head. Best Regards, Rosanna
