Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water-saving Valve makes pressure independent of temperature I bought this valve because it enables you to set the pressure (flow) of the water independently from the temperature. I hate that all the options from the big box stores require you to turn the water all the way on in order to simply get hot water. I believe in only using what I need, and this valve (combined with the right hardware inside the shower) permits me to have hot water at a much lower flow rate. I'm just now getting again for the remodel of another bathroom.

Q&A

I see 13 different Delta MultiChoice R10000 models, what is the difference between the models?

Asked by: Sam
Thank you for your question. We do offer many different kinds of R10000 rough in valves and it depends on what kind of piping you are using as to which one you use. Here is a list of what all the letters mean after the R10000 number. UN-universal valve can be used with copper, iron pipe, pex or cpvc piping BX-is an individual box instead of a case of 12 rough-in WS-screwdriver stops means you can turn the water off at the valve instead of shutting off the water in the whole house. HF-high flow valve can only be used with a shower only faucet. T-thin wall mounting kit included. IP-can only be installed with a iron pipe. PX-can only be installed with pex piping MF-used for pex cold expansion connections

I bought two R10000 valves, can I use one as diverter valve for hand-held device?

Asked by: Mick
Dear Mick, Thank you for your inquiry! The Delta MultiChoice Universal Valve R10000-UNBX is designed for hot and cold water side port connections only. You would need the Delta 3/6 Setting Diverter R11000 valve to install/add a hand shower to your shower unit. https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/product/R11000 Best regards, Tanya

What is the maximum flow rate when installing with multiple shower heads and a 3 way diverter?

Asked by: Jamie
Thank you for your question, Jamie! A Delta Multichoice Universal valve such as the R10000-UNBX is dependent on the trim being used to determine the flow rate. For example, a 13/14 series trim used with this valve should provide approximately 4.9gpm at 40PSI whereas a 17 series would produce 5.0gpm at 40PSI. A T17T thermostatic trim kit will provide the highest rate at 7.0gpm at 40Psi or up to 9.8gpm at 80PSI. If the installation will not include a tub spout, a high flow valve such as R10000-UNBXHF will increase this rate further. Please contact us directly if you have questions or need further assistance. Asked by: Josh@Lowes
Hello Josh@Lowes! Thank you for your question. Both valves are functionally the same and can be used interchangeably, only the packaging is different as the R10000-LBX is produced specifically for Lowe's Home Improvement stores. Best regards, Edward

how many turns to fully open "stops"

Can't seem to find how many turns to fully open the stops after testing valve and connections. I do o not want to sacrifice water pressure by not opening enough, yet I do not want the risk leakage by opening too far. exactly how many revolutions do you open when you put the valve in service to consider it "fully open". Thank you Bob
Asked by: Bob F
Hi Bob, Thank you for your question! The supply stop with stop turning when it is fully opened, and should remain water-tight. From the fully open position, the stops can be tightened 3 turns without a noticeable reduction of flow. Best regards, Jon

Universal shower valve. Water will not get very hot even when the limiter is not in place and full how water is on. I increased the temperature on the water heater to no avail. Is there a limiter on the valve body itself that can be adjusted?

Asked by: Floyd
Hi, Floyd! Thank you for your question, and I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your Delta faucet. The valve body, R10000-UNBX, does not have a limit stop for temperature control. The only limit stop is on the valve cartridge assembly. To adjust the rotational limit stop on your valve cartridge assembly, here is a how-to video on how to adjust this: https://www.deltafaucet.com/video-gallery/video-page-1?videoId=n2_uZ7wgV1I Best Regards, Rosanna

the instructions indicate the tub facet down spout should not be more the 18" long

I am installing a fiberglass unit. How critical is it if the down spout line is more than 18" from the valve body? What are the impacts if tube is longer say 24"
Asked by: dominator
Thank you for your question. When using the R10000-UNBX the length between the valve and the tub spout has to be between 8"-18". If it is more than 18", you will have a situation called shower rise where water comes out of the showerhead when you only have the tub spout running.

What is the valve and trim I should use to get a flow rate of 10 to 12 GPM for a tub only (no shower) use, wall mount? Tub/shower valve OK, I will plug the shower outlet.

Asked by: Stuart
Thank you for your question, Stuart! Although unlikely to reach 12 gpm, an R10000-UNBX valve along with a Thermostatic 17T trim will provide the highest flow rate possible. This will rely heavily on the PSI to the home or valve however, as this combination can produce 7.0gpm at 40psi or up to 9.8gpm at 80psi. https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/showering/tub-and-shower-faucets?ValveType=Dual-function+thermostatic+cartridge Best regards, Edward

Why is there a minimum (8") drop to tub spout ?

I understand that a maximum 18" drop to the tub spout is to prevent shower rise, But why a minimum drop ? If the tub path is open through the tub spout why wouldn't the water correctly flow to the tub only ? Can you explain the reason for the 8" minimum requirement ?
Asked by: idler
Dear Idler, Thank you for you question. The Delta Tub/Shower faucets require a minimum of 8-16" drop for the tub spout installation, so not to cause a shower rise install issue. This is when the water can't get out of the spout as fast as it flows through the valve. This causes the water to back up and come out the shower head. Anything less the 8" or more than 16" will cause Shower Rise. https://www.deltafaucet.com/service-parts/faq/faq-tablist-area/tabularlist/bath/faq-item-21#answer-c3ad508e-2cd4-4b5a-8af5-3f75cacd1f90 Best regards, Tanya

I bought Delta T14459-BL 14 with this valve. I am only getting 3.8GPM from the tub faucet. My adjacent room master bath tub fills at 7.8GPM. Any ideas where the limitation is coming from?

Asked by: Daniel3342
Hi, Daniel3342. Thank you for your question, and I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing low flow from your Delta shower unit. We do recommend to flush or back flush to make sure no debris is stuck that maybe causing the low flow to your shower and tub unit. To flush, first turn off the water supply to the faucet. Remove the handle assembly, unscrew the bonnet ring and remove the cartridge assembly and all seals. Rinse and clean the cartridge out thoroughly. Turn both the hot and cold water back on for 10 to 15 seconds to flush out the valve body. After the allotted time, turn the water off and reinstall all of the components. Make sure that there is no debris on the cartridge assembly and seals. To back flush, first turn off the water supply to the faucet. Remove the handle assembly, unscrew the bonnet ring and remove the cartridge assembly and all seals. Remove the tub spout assembly. Take a garden hose or air compressor and shoot water or air from the tube where the tub spout was installed up into the open valve body. Best Regards, Rosanna

Is there an easy fix if the plasterguard is sticking too far out of the finished wall?

After everything has been redone in our tiled shower, the plasterguard is sticking out at least a half inch from the tiled shower wall. This prevents the trim plate (the escutcheon?) from being installed tightly against the finished wall. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this?
Asked by: Amy N
Hi Amy, Thank you for your question. The plasterguard on the R10000-UNWS must be mounted flush or subflush 1/4" to the finished wall. Unfortunately the only fix is to re-rough the valve to the proper distance. If you have a 13/14 series faucet removing the plasterguard itself and ordering the 3/4" longer RP22735 trim sleeve might work. Thanks, Dave

R10000-UNBX VS R10000-UNWS

If a trim recommend R10000-UNBX, can I use R10000-UNWS instead?
Asked by: Chris
Hi Chris, The R10000-UNBX and the R10000-UNWS are completely interchangeable. The only difference between the two is that the R10000-UNWS has screwdriver stops which allow the user to be able to turn the water off to the valve for maintenance without having to turn the water off to the entire home.

Hi, the instructions say to not use PEX for the tub down spout. I don't understand why. Could you please explain this to me? Thank you

Asked by: DNapes
Hi, DNapes! Thank you for your question. We do not recommend using PEX supply line from the Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNBX Rough Valve Body and the tub spout assembly to prevent shower rise. Shower rise is when water travels to the shower head when the tub spout is in use without the diverter operated because PEX line inner diameter is smaller. Best Regards, Rosanna

What Rough-in Valve Should I Use for a Tub Only Installation

I want to install a tub only with no shower. What is the best rough-in valve to use?
Asked by: AKDolFan
Hi AKDolFan, Thank you for your question! We do not have a rough-in valve specifically designed for a tub-only-application. However, any R10000 valve except for the HF (High Flow) versions will work as a tub-only installation. You will simply need to cap the top port of the valve. http://www.deltafaucet.com/search/results.html?q=R10000 Best regards, Jon

What is the flow rate of the R10000-UNBX Delta Multichoice Tub/Shower valve body

Asked by: Bill
Hi, Bill! Thank you for your question. The flow rate will be primarily determined by the main valve and trim that you use (R10000 + 13/14, 17, or 17T trim). The approximate maximum flow rate: With R10000-UNBX: 14 series - 5.8 GPM 17 series - 5.9 GPM 17T series - 7.3 GPM Best Regards, Rosanna

Does R10000UVWSHF actually have a higher flow rate than R10000UVWS with tub port plugged off? Or does the HF only mean shower only with no tub port?

Asked by: JCCrider
Thank you for your question, JCCrider! The designation "HF" means this valve is a "High Flow" rough that provides a stronger flow rate but also does not include a tub spout port. This flow rate will be higher than a standard rough with a plugged tub spout port. Best regards, Edward
