Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water-saving Valve makes pressure independent of temperature I bought this valve because it enables you to set the pressure (flow) of the water independently from the temperature. I hate that all the options from the big box stores require you to turn the water all the way on in order to simply get hot water. I believe in only using what I need, and this valve (combined with the right hardware inside the shower) permits me to have hot water at a much lower flow rate. I'm just now getting again for the remodel of another bathroom.

What size hole to cut for valve in shower

Hi, I have a Sterling Ensemble shower kit. The wall is about an 1/8 in thick. What size hole should I cut through the shower wall?
Asked by: Bob
No. That 4x4 plaster guard is to be used as a sandwich "behind" the 1/8" thin shower wall. Not a 4x4 cutout. Also, you dont need a 4x4 cutout for tiled finish walls either. Its just a depth guide, then remove it. Use a hole saw just slightly larger than the round portion of the valve. Then 2 smaller holes for the finish cover plate.

I have a 2x3 (actual depth would be 2.5") wall can this be modified to fit? Or is there are shallower rough in valve that you guys make?

Asked by: awitate
Thank you for your question, awitate! The R10000-UNBX MultiChoice Rough Valve requires 2 3/4" (70 mm) measured from the stringer to the finished wall in order to avoid a gap. We do not offer a shallower rough nor do we recommend altering the product in any way. https://media.deltafaucet.com/SpecSheet/DSP-B-R10000%20Rev%20J.pdf Best regards, Edward

what is the GPM of the R10000-UNWS

I need some product information that states the GPM of the R10000-UNWS. Can you help?
Asked by: Tim Miller
Hi Tim, Thank you for your question. The flow rate will depend on the trim kit used with the valve. With the 14 or 17 series, the top port of the valve will flow at 5.6 gallons per minute at 60 PSI. The 17T series will flow at 6.7 GPM. Best regards, Jon

I have a tub/shower combo and am installing Ashlyn shower head, tub spout and diverter along with a hand shower. Can I have the diverter control all three with no diverter on the tub spout? If so, Which trim and valves do I need? Just R1000 - UNBX?

Asked by: TinaO
Hello TinaO, Thank you for your question. When installing a custom Ashlyn shower head, hand shower and tub spout, you must have a diverter on the tub spout for the water to divert up to the other installed showering units. The tub spout can only be connected to the bottom port of the R10000-UN and the shower head and hand shower should be connected to the R11000 to and right side port of the diverter valve. My plumber installed a “delta r10000 multi choice valve” for our shower/tub. What other parts do I need? Is the diverter in the trim kit or the tub faucet? Unfortunately, my plumber is not a good communicator.

Asked by: Tallgood
Hello Tallgood, Thank you for your question. The Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNBX model is the rough-in valve only. This rough in valve can be used with Delta 13/14 series and 17 series valve trims, which both come included with pressure balanced cartridges and diverter tub spout assembly. Best regards, Tanya

Connecting a R10000-UNWS to a shower and rainfall head

Is there anyway I can connect the shower head to the tub port and the rainfall head to the top port and control the flow between the two without installing an additional R110000 diverter?
Asked by: Chris
Thank you for your question. If you try to plumb the showerhead to the tub port and the raincan showerhead to the top port on your Delta Faucet model R10000-UNBX, you will get water out of both showerheads. However, it will not be even pressure and there is no way to control it. Both showerheads will always come on when you turn on the faucet.

Does the R10000-UNWS have an internal check valve to prevent cross flow when hot water pressure is higher than cold water? Use is for a high rise building where pumped hot water pressure can often be greater than municipal cold water pressure.

Asked by: NFHA George
Thank you for your question, NFHA George! The R10000-UNWS rough in valve does not have internal check valves. This rough in valve can be used with Delta 13/14 series and 17 series valve trims, which both come included with pressure balanced cartridges. Best Regards, Benjamin

Hello is there a way to prevent crossover flow temporarily ( until we can buy the valve system to go in) .

Asked by: MikeD
Hi, MikeD! Thank you for your question. The Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNBX Rough Valve Body does include a test plug to test the hot and cold lines for leaks after the installation of the valve. If you are not yet ready to install the trim you can put the test plug back on to the valve until you are ready to complete the entire unit. This will stop the cross flow you are experiencing. I hope this information is helpful. Best Regards, Rosanna

Lowe’s recommended a RP19804 filter cartridge for my R10000 multichoice diverter valve. It’s letting water through no matter how the valve is oriented. I need to know if these two components are compatible or not. I have been on hold for 1.5 hours.

Asked by: Matt
Hi, Thank you for your question. I do apologize for any confusion regarding your Delta product. We are happy to help! The RP19804 will not stop water on a R10000-UNBX as the legs are too short to stop water. The RP46074 or RP46463 are needed depending on the trim. Please contact us at 1-800-345-3358 if you have any further concerns. We are open Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM central time, and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday. Best Regards, Bethany

UNBXHF or UNWS for shower-only installation?

Help! Plumbing supply store can't get UNBXHF valve initially recommended and is offering UNWS instead. However, I can get the UNBXHF from another retailer. This is for shower-only installation (single shower head) in a stand-up shower. Can you help me decide which one will work better for me? I like the independent temperature/volume control feature so I can adjust flow in the shower independent from the temperature control. Thank you.
Asked by: Rebecca
Hi Rebecca, Thank you for your question! If you are using a shower only, with no other components (hand showers, body sprays, etc), then you can use either of these valves. The UNWS version includes is With Stops (WS), which allow you to turn the water off at the valve in the wall while installing the trim or doing repairs, and the tub spout port can be easily capped off by a plumber for a shower only installation. The temperature and volume control will be determined by the trim kit you use. Based on what you have described, you will want a 17 or 17T series trim. http://www.deltafaucet.com/bath/tubshower/filter-results.html?sort=pricehighlow&tech=volumecontrol&function=bath-tubshower Thanks, Jon

Is there a chart with the differences between the rough valve models?

I would like to know which rough valve to use with the T17478 trim. I think that the R10000-UNBX is the safest choice because it can be used with all the major types of pipe. However I can't seem to determine the difference between the R10000-UN and the R10000-UNBX. I see that this is a common type of question that might be avoided if there was chart or something on your site. I thought I might be able to answer these questions by selecting the items for a comparison, but that was not useful. Thanks
Asked by: V-
Thank you for your question. There is not really a chart telling the differences between the rough-in kits but I will certainly pass along that suggestion to our marketing department. Thanks for the suggestion. As to the differences in Delta Faucet model # R10000-UN and R10000-UNBX, there is not a difference in the model itself. The difference comes in the packaging. The R10000-UN has to be ordered in cases of 12 and they are packed together. The R10000-UNBX is one individual box.

I am inquiring if the Delta R10000-UNBX rough in valve is "self balancing" per my plumber's instructions to meet city code.

Asked by: witt
Hello Witt, Thank you for your question. All Delta tub and shower faucets are engineered to keep the water temperature within a safe ±3.6° F (±1.7° C)*. This technology makes sure your family doesn’t experience a sudden and possibly unsafe change in water temperature as a result of running water elsewhere. So, I’ve installed one of these.  The problem is that the water doesn’t get hot enough, and the water gets colder as the shower progresses...is there a setting on the valve itself that needs to be set?

Asked by: Rtamac3
Thank you for your question, Rtamac3! The Rough-In Valve does not regulate temperature and can only mix the hot and cold water coming into the valve. We recommend flushing the valve body as well as checking the rotational limit stop on your cartridge. Information on setting this component can be found in the Maintenance and Installation manual that was provided. Please contact us directly if you have questions or need further assistance. I know ws = with stops. What are the stops for? Also, HF = high flow. What does that mean compared to one without hf?

does hf mean that it uses more water? Does it mean there would potentially be more pressure?
Asked by: John
Hi John, Thank you for your question. The stops allow you to shut the water off at the faucet instead of shutting off the water to the whole house if you need to do maintainance or repair the faucet. The HF rough is for shower only. The valve does not have the tub port which allows for a higher flow rate. The rate difference depends on your household water pressure, valve, and trim choices. Can the temp be adjusted a little hotter

Asked by: Luap59
Thank you for your inquiry, Luap59! The Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In R10000-UNBX valve is not designed with a way to adjust the temperature. The trim kit that is selected to be installed with this rough-in valve will include the valve cartridge assembly, that has a rotational limit stop that can be adjusted for hotter or colder water from the unit. I purchased a T17438-SS trim and an R10000-UNBX Rough in. I would like to mount the body about 28" above the tub spout using 1/2" copper pipe. I realize that the specification calls for not more than 18" above the spout. Can I expect any problems?

Asked by: Salvatore
Hi, Salvatore. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, installing the tub spout less than 8" and more than 18" from the valve body may cause shower rise. Shower rise is when water intended to fill at the tub spout starts coming out of the shower head even when the diverter is not lifted at the spout. Best Regards, Rosanna

Will UNBX provide enough flow for two shower heads?

I have a custom shower that was just finished. It has a standard shower head and also a rainfall head. The contractor installed the UNBX rough-in, plugged the tub port, installed a three position diverter, and 1700 trim. Now, my Delta dealer is telling me we should have installed the UNBX-HF to use with a diverter in order to run two heads at the same time. They are saying the UNBX does not have enough flow for two heads at the same time because there is a restriction device when the tub port is capped. My Delta dealer said the only other possibility was to turn the UNBX upside down and use the tub port. Now, there is no way to go back and change the rough in. Thousands of dollars in tile work is done, and the wall would have to be torn out. Any suggestions on what to do? What is the GPM of the shower port on the UNBX vs the UNBX-HF? Can anything be done to increase the flow?
Asked by: Ken
Hi Ken, Thank you for your question. At 60 psi the 17 series cartridge will give you approximately 6.04 gpm on the R10000-UNBX and 6.66 gpm on the R10000-UNBXHF out of the shower port. The diverter will lessen the waterflow to the showerheads but you should have enough water to run 2 showerheads at the same time. Thanks, Dave

How far do you insert the plug supplied with the valve to close off the unused side? Do you use a hammer to force fit in the opening?

Asked by: Ed
Hi Ed, Thank you for your question. The plug should fit into the port until it bottoms out. This will leave approximately 1/8" of the plug exposed. The plug should slide in without the use of a hammer especially when the flux is added prior to sweating. Thanks, Dave

What are the stops for and how do they work

Asked by: Rich
Dear Rich, Thank you for your inquiry! The screw driver stops on the Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In Valve R10000-UNWS allow you to shut the water off at the faucet instead of shutting off the water to the whole house, if you need to do maintenance or repairs to the faucet. With a flat head screwdriver, you would adjust the stems clockwise to close and counterclockwise to open. https://media.deltafaucet.com/MandI/50353%20Rev%20J.pdf Best regards, Tanya

Distance from valve to shower head

I am getting water out of my shower head when filling the tub. My distance from valve to tub spout is 14inches. All plumbing connections are 1/2 inch CPVC, except the drop down for the tub spout, it s 1/2 inch galvanized. What should my distance from valve to shower head be? Any other suggestions?
Asked by: Mark
Dear Mark, Thank you for your question. What you are experiencing is called shower-rise. Someone has made an installation error in your wall. Here are the four things to check. 1. The distance between the center of the valve body to the center of the tub spout must be between 8 and 18 inches. 2. You must use straight ½” copper or ½” iron piping for the piping down to the tub spout. No PVC piping, PEX piping, drop ear elbows or shark fittings are allowed for the piping going to the tub spout. 3. You can only use one 90 degree elbow with the piping going to the tub spout. 4. The main valve body must be installed right side up. Best regards, Tanya

Installing T17278 and 51708 in my new shower.

Can you tell me what I would need for valve body and/or diverter so that I can use each separately, as well as both at the same time? Thanks.
Asked by: TK
Hi TK, Thank you for your question. You will need your shower trim T17278, and shower rough, we recommend the R10000-UNBXHF for your set up. The diverter will require the diverter trim T11800 and diverter rough R11000. This will allow you to use each showerhead individually or at the same time. The last piece you need in addition to the 51708 slide bar hand shower is the 50560 wall elbow for the hand shower. Thanks, Dave
