Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water-saving Valve makes pressure independent of temperature I bought this valve because it enables you to set the pressure (flow) of the water independently from the temperature. I hate that all the options from the big box stores require you to turn the water all the way on in order to simply get hot water. I believe in only using what I need, and this valve (combined with the right hardware inside the shower) permits me to have hot water at a much lower flow rate. I'm just now getting again for the remodel of another bathroom.

Q&A

Is there a chart with the differences between the rough valve models?

I would like to know which rough valve to use with the T17478 trim. I think that the R10000-UNBX is the safest choice because it can be used with all the major types of pipe. However I can't seem to determine the difference between the R10000-UN and the R10000-UNBX. I see that this is a common type of question that might be avoided if there was chart or something on your site. I thought I might be able to answer these questions by selecting the items for a comparison, but that was not useful. Thanks
Asked by: V-
Thank you for your question. There is not really a chart telling the differences between the rough-in kits but I will certainly pass along that suggestion to our marketing department. Thanks for the suggestion. As to the differences in Delta Faucet model # R10000-UN and R10000-UNBX, there is not a difference in the model itself. The difference comes in the packaging. The R10000-UN has to be ordered in cases of 12 and they are packed together. The R10000-UNBX is one individual box.

I am inquiring if the Delta R10000-UNBX rough in valve is "self balancing" per my plumber's instructions to meet city code.

Asked by: witt
Hello Witt, Thank you for your question. All Delta tub and shower faucets are engineered to keep the water temperature within a safe ±3.6° F (±1.7° C)*. This technology makes sure your family doesn’t experience a sudden and possibly unsafe change in water temperature as a result of running water elsewhere. So, I’ve installed one of these.  The problem is that the water doesn’t get hot enough, and the water gets colder as the shower progresses...is there a setting on the valve itself that needs to be set?

Asked by: Rtamac3
Thank you for your question, Rtamac3! The Rough-In Valve does not regulate temperature and can only mix the hot and cold water coming into the valve. We recommend flushing the valve body as well as checking the rotational limit stop on your cartridge. Information on setting this component can be found in the Maintenance and Installation manual that was provided. Please contact us directly if you have questions or need further assistance. Hi, Ducky! Thank you for your question. There is no difference between the Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNWS-3 rough-in valve body with stops and the Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNWS rough-in valve body with stops. The "-3" in the model number indicates the unit is exclusive to The Home Depot. The make and quality is the exact same. Best Regards, Rosanna

Can the temp be adjusted a little hotter

Asked by: Luap59
Thank you for your inquiry, Luap59! The Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In R10000-UNBX valve is not designed with a way to adjust the temperature. The trim kit that is selected to be installed with this rough-in valve will include the valve cartridge assembly, that has a rotational limit stop that can be adjusted for hotter or colder water from the unit. I purchased a T17438-SS trim and an R10000-UNBX Rough in. I would like to mount the body about 28" above the tub spout using 1/2" copper pipe. I realize that the specification calls for not more than 18" above the spout. Can I expect any problems?

Asked by: Salvatore
Hi, Salvatore. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, installing the tub spout less than 8" and more than 18" from the valve body may cause shower rise. Shower rise is when water intended to fill at the tub spout starts coming out of the shower head even when the diverter is not lifted at the spout. Best Regards, Rosanna

Will UNBX provide enough flow for two shower heads?

I have a custom shower that was just finished. It has a standard shower head and also a rainfall head. The contractor installed the UNBX rough-in, plugged the tub port, installed a three position diverter, and 1700 trim. Now, my Delta dealer is telling me we should have installed the UNBX-HF to use with a diverter in order to run two heads at the same time. They are saying the UNBX does not have enough flow for two heads at the same time because there is a restriction device when the tub port is capped. My Delta dealer said the only other possibility was to turn the UNBX upside down and use the tub port. Now, there is no way to go back and change the rough in. Thousands of dollars in tile work is done, and the wall would have to be torn out. Any suggestions on what to do? What is the GPM of the shower port on the UNBX vs the UNBX-HF? Can anything be done to increase the flow?
Asked by: Ken
Hi Ken, Thank you for your question. At 60 psi the 17 series cartridge will give you approximately 6.04 gpm on the R10000-UNBX and 6.66 gpm on the R10000-UNBXHF out of the shower port. The diverter will lessen the waterflow to the showerheads but you should have enough water to run 2 showerheads at the same time. Thanks, Dave

How far do you insert the plug supplied with the valve to close off the unused side? Do you use a hammer to force fit in the opening?

Asked by: Ed
Hi Ed, Thank you for your question. The plug should fit into the port until it bottoms out. This will leave approximately 1/8" of the plug exposed. The plug should slide in without the use of a hammer especially when the flux is added prior to sweating. Thanks, Dave

Distance from valve to shower head

I am getting water out of my shower head when filling the tub. My distance from valve to tub spout is 14inches. All plumbing connections are 1/2 inch CPVC, except the drop down for the tub spout, it s 1/2 inch galvanized. What should my distance from valve to shower head be? Any other suggestions?
Asked by: Mark
Dear Mark, Thank you for your question. What you are experiencing is called shower-rise. Someone has made an installation error in your wall. Here are the four things to check. 1. The distance between the center of the valve body to the center of the tub spout must be between 8 and 18 inches. 2. You must use straight ½” copper or ½” iron piping for the piping down to the tub spout. No PVC piping, PEX piping, drop ear elbows or shark fittings are allowed for the piping going to the tub spout. 3. You can only use one 90 degree elbow with the piping going to the tub spout. 4. The main valve body must be installed right side up. Best regards, Tanya

Installing T17278 and 51708 in my new shower.

Can you tell me what I would need for valve body and/or diverter so that I can use each separately, as well as both at the same time? Thanks.
Asked by: TK
Hi TK, Thank you for your question. You will need your shower trim T17278, and shower rough, we recommend the R10000-UNBXHF for your set up. The diverter will require the diverter trim T11800 and diverter rough R11000. This will allow you to use each showerhead individually or at the same time. The last piece you need in addition to the 51708 slide bar hand shower is the 50560 wall elbow for the hand shower. Thanks, Dave

We have a Delta (addison) tub faucet Model R10000 - water isn't hot

How do we adjust it to make the water hot? Can't find anything in the instructions that came with it. Thanks,
Asked by: pegjamo
Thank you for your question. Your Addison tub faucet contains a rotational limit stop. that may need adjusting to allow more hot water to flow through the valve. Included here are the instructions for adjusting the limit stop. The first one is if you have a 1700 series faucet with a temperature knob and volume control that are separate. The instructions are on page 9. http://www.deltafaucet.com/customersupport/documentation/t17292-ss.html?document=mi&documentIndex=0#flashWrapper The second set are for the 1400 series faucet with only a temperature contol. How to use with 13 series trim

I recently purchased the T13020-SS trim (13 series), however I cannot install the cartridge for it because the cartridge is longer in depth than can fit into this valve body. The current cartridge in the valve body is the RP46463 (17 series), which is shorter than the 13 series cartridge. Is there a way to make the 13 series cartridge fit in this valve body?
Asked by: Jon
Hi John, Thank you for your question. The RP46074 cartridge that comes in the T13020-SS trim will work with a R10000-UNBX multichoice valve. Please verify that the 17 series cartridge adapter RP46073 that is part of the RP46463 cartridge is no longer in the valve body. http://www.deltafaucet.com/repairparts/details/rp46073.html If your existing valve is older than February 2006 it is a pre-multichoice valve and the current 13 and 17 series cartridges do not work in the older rough in valve. We had the R 10000 valve and the T 17294 shower faucet installed in November. We are getting complaints from visitors that the water pressure is weak.

Can we make any adjustment to the valve or shower head to improve the water pressure which was fine before our new valve and shower head were installed? Pressure is also fine in the rest of the condo.
Asked by: Gregg
Hi, Gregg! Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing low flow from your Delta shower. You may have some debris trapped in the valve body or cartridge assembly that is blocking the water flow. You may need to clean out the cartridge assembly and flush out the valve body. First turn off the water supply to the faucet. Remove the handle assembly, unscrew the bonnet ring and remove the cartridge assembly and all seals. Rinse and clean the cartridge out thoroughly. Turn both the hot and cold water back on for 10 to 15 seconds to flush out the valve body. After the allotted time, turn the water off and reinstall all of the components. Make sure that there is no debris on the cartridge assembly and seals. If this does not resolve your issue, then the cartridge assembly may need to be replaced. Best Regards, Rosanna

R10000-UNBX Has a minimum Spec for the tub spout of 8", Can I make it 6 1/2 inches

I am doing a three knob retrofit on a tile wall, the distance from the center of the valve to where the old tub spout is about 6 1/2 inches not the specified minimum of 8". I am using a R10000-UNBX , with the escutcheon and a T17430-H2O trim kit. It will be a lot of extra work to get the 8 inch minimum distance from the center of the valve to the tub spout, is this a strict minimum dimension? Is there something I can do, such as wider or narrower pipe to the spout and only have a 6 1/2 inche distance from the center of the valve to the spout. The shower function(Not The Tub) will be used 99.9% of the time, Thanks, Greg
Asked by: Greg
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, this has to be the measurement. It needs to be between 8" and 18" or you will probably have shower rise. Shower rise means the water will rise up and come out the showerhead when you are trying to use the tub spout only.

New trim for old valve body

I need to replace the trim package on my existing Monitor 1700 Series shower valve. The existing cartridge is an RP32104 (white top, single tab on left). The valve body seems to be an older model that has screwdriver stop assemblies soldered to both sides and the threaded screw holes for the escutcheon trim screws are both on the bottom of the side of the body. All of the replacement trim packages show the screws on the lower left and upper right so they don't line up with the screw holes on my valve body. The new mounting brackets don't seem to provide an access to the screwdriver stops. Is there an adaptor or some other way to mount a new trim package to this valve body?
Asked by: philimus
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately there is not a trim that will fit your current valve body. You will need to replace the valve too. We recommend Delta Faucet model # R10000-UNBX multi-choice valve. Or if you want to keep the screwdriver stops like on your current valve, then we would recommend Delta Faucet model # R10000-UNWS. This would allow you to turn the water off at the valve for servicing instead of the whole house.
