What is the connection type of this diverter to the wall? Does it tie on with a brass adapter to copper pipe or does it thread directly into 1/2" IPS thrreads? Does this diverter work with a R3500-WL rough valve?

This tub spout utilizes a brass adapter as the installation method. It can not be used with the R3500-WL valve.

How do I get this item in metal, not plastic, with ceramic cartridges or discs?

Thank you for your question about the Delta Faucet tub spout RP78736.
Examples of non-diverter tub spouts with metal construction include RP62149 and RP64722. Unfortunately, we do not carry tub spouts with ceramic parts.
