I currently have 1700 series. Do I just have to replace the cartridge or the whole valve unit?

Thanks so much for contacting Delta Faucet Company about, T17464-BL-I-R!
The cartridge replacement would fix leaking issues, and temperature issues. The whole rough valve does not need replaced unless it is damaged.

What rough in valve do I need R1000 UNBX ? And what cartridge do I need ?

This model utilizes the RP10000-UNBX rough-in valve. The trim kit will include the cartridge.
