What's up with the included diverter??I love this trim, but I posted this same review under the 3 position diverter as well, since its the part that was included with this trim kit.
So, originally I bought the shower trim, T27T897-SS (in stainless). It arrived with a "3 function diverter." I thought this was what I needed to control 3 separate nozzles in my shower (rain, normal shower head, and waterfall). After installing the trim and diverter, I noticed that the "3 function diverter" that arrived with the trim kit was not what I needed, as each function shared the #2 port. So after some research, I determined that I needed a 3 function diverter port, with NON-SHARED outputs. I ordered RP71718 per the parts diagram included with the trim kit. Cost was not cheap, like $100 + shipping for the diverter cartridge. The replacement diverter arrived yesterday and did the same thing as the one that came with the original trim. So, I called customer service and waited about 40 minutes for an agent (I was 15th in line). He proceeded to tell me that there was no such part as a 3 function non-shared cartridge, and that I needed a 6 function diverter (RP51919), and if I wanted everything to look right, I would need to buy the matching 6 position escutcheon trim as well, over $100 for the trim piece alone and the cost of yet another diverter, when the instruction manual states that I bought the proper part for what I intend to do here.. So I paid almost $800 for the trim and an extra $100 for the additional cartridge, and still have a shower that no matter what position you choose, water comes out of all 3 heads at the same time. Now Delta wants over $200 more for more parts to get this working like it should have from the start. How about making a proper 3 position, 3 function, non-shared diverter cartridge that actually works if you are going to charge $100 for it?? I am very frustrated and half termpted to put a different manufacturer in now, but I already installed and upgraded to the R22000 multichoice valve system, which I am pretty sure is compatible to Delta only. I have had great reliability with Delta and their customer service and warranty coverage has always been top notch, but I am starting to question that they are the same company anymore.

Hot Cold Knob FailWe had this item installed in our master bath, along with a shower head and also a hand-held shower wand in Venetian Bronze approx. 5 years ago. Very shortly after install, the plastic Hot/Cold knob broke; it was falling off (it's made of plastic). I called Delta and was sent a replacement very quickly, which was great. Here we are 5 years later and it's broken, again. I just went on-line and purchased TWO, one to replace the current, broken one and another for a back-up because I have no doubt it will break at some point in the future. Other than this knob, we have been very happy with the items in general.

Functional and stylishWorks well and looks good!
I want to control two heads without sharing in one application, and three heads without sharing in another?
Asked by: slowillie
Thank you for your question. The non-shared diverter cartridges are sold separately. We recommend using the RP71717 with T27T897-SS and RP71718 with model T27T997.

Does this control 3 different shower heads?
Asked by: Jeni
Hi Jeni,
Thank you for your question! The T27T897 has a 3-Setting Diverter, which allows you to control 2 shower heads. The T27T997 has a 6-Setting Diverter, which will allow you to divert between 3 different shower heads/components.

Trying to find the proper diverter to control the rain head shower or the wall shower or both... what diverter package and cartridges do I need?
Asked by: Reddawg
Hi, Reddawg!
Thank you for your question. The Delta T27T897 trim kit does include both valve cartridge assembly and diverter cartridge assembly. The shower heads and valve body assembly are sold separately. The valve body needed for this trim kit is R22000 or R22000-WS diverter valve.

How to change temperature
Asked by: Trescox
Hi, Trescox.
Thank you for your question. The temperature control on the Delta TempAssure® 17T Series T27T897 Valve Trim is on the bottom handle. It is the small knob that is labeled 'H' and 'C'. This knob can be turned left or right for hot and cold.

What is the difference between the TempAssure and the Monitor valve trim?
Asked by: Katie
Thank you for your question, Katie! The Monitor valve trims will provide ScaldGuard technology which compensates for a sudden drop in pressure to maintain the temperature. The Tempassure series will also actively protect against possible scalding but will maintain the temperature within a consistent (±3.6° F or ±2° C). The 17 and T17 series will both offer a separate volume and temperature control for a completely controlled custom shower experience.

How do I know if I need a 3 setting diverter or a 6 setting diverter
We have a tub spout, a shower head, and a hand held shower. Currently we can choose any of those plus we can choose overhead shower and hand held at the same time.
Asked by: Heidi
Dear Heidi,
Thank you for your inquiry! The Delta TempAssure 17T Series Valve Trim with 3-Setting Integrated Diverter T27T897, setting are for controlling the setting for the showerhead working alone, hand shower working alone and third position is both shower head and handshower working together. The tub spout has its own diverter on it that sends, the water supply to the diverter above the main handle.

Tanya

I have a new install of the T27897 shower value with a three position diverter. My installer caped outlet 2 and used outlet # 1 for the over head shower and outlet # 3 for the hand held shower. This only gives me two selections, Help
Asked by: chris
Hi there Chris,
Thank you for your question. When installing the R22000 Integrated Rough-In valve, the plug should be soldered to the right outlet port of the in wall valve, for the Delta Traditional 17 Series 3-Setting Integrated Trim T27897 to function with the indicate handle rotation. If the left port of the valve was actually capped off, you can purchase just the 6 setting diverter cartridge, RP51919, so that all of your setting will work with your existing trim. There will be a few dead spot with this cartridge installed.
