Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water-saving Valve makes pressure independent of temperature I bought this valve because it enables you to set the pressure (flow) of the water independently from the temperature. I hate that all the options from the big box stores require you to turn the water all the way on in order to simply get hot water. I believe in only using what I need, and this valve (combined with the right hardware inside the shower) permits me to have hot water at a much lower flow rate. I'm just now getting again for the remodel of another bathroom.

Q&A

I have the MultiChoice R10000-UNBX installed, but my cartridge, RP19804, does not seem to work. After I put it in, I can't turn the water off.

Asked by: Charlie
Hi Charlie, With the R10000-UNBX, you will need to use the updated Multi Choice cartridge. The new cartridge that is the equivalent of your current cartridge is part number RP46074. If you are going to be purchasing a new trim kit to go with the new valve, a new cartridge will come in that trim kit.

Can you use "Pex" products with this valve

I am using PEX product to install a shower up to the shower controls
Asked by: T
Thank you for your question. PEX products can be used with Delta Faucet model # R10000-UNBX but not between the valve and the tub spout. The only things you can use between the valve and the tub spout are copper pipe or iron pipe. If you use PEX in between those two points, you will get shower rise where water comes out of the showerhead when you are using the tub only.

Asked by: Nick
Thank you for your inquiry, Nick! Any of the Delta 13, 14, 17, or 17T series trim kits that we currently make will work with this Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In R10000-UNBX valve. Trim-only kits will begin with the letter "T". https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/bathing Best regards, Tanya

How do I determine which style valve I need (R10000-???)

Replacing existing rough valve that broke (moron who installed originally did not use stringer to support, valve just hung in mid-air by copper tubing). I have copper 1/2" tubing w/ soldered connections, Delta T13 Series Tub & Shower. Access to the back of valve through 2x4 framed wall w/ drywall. Fiberglass one-piece tub/shower.
Asked by: Craig
Thank you for your question. Since you are mounting this on a fiberglass shower, we would recommend using the R10000-UNWSBXT for a thin wall mounting.

universal valves

I am wanting to convert my single handle Price Pfister tub & shower set to a delta. Which universal adapter would I need for this and would it also be possible to choose a set which has the separate temp control when my current one is not that type?
Asked by: Patti
Hi Patti, Thank you for your interest in our products. There is no way to adapt/convert another brand of faucet into a Delta. You would have to change the rough in behind the wall as well. The R10000UNWSBXT is one of our multichoice universal roughs. Once this rough is installed you can choose any of the Delta tub/shower trims to fit this rough in valve. Our T17 series trims offer separate temperature and volume control and are available in a variety of styles and finishes. Thanks, Dave

Does the Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNWS rough valve body work with Monitor 1400 series with a RP19804 cartridge?

Asked by: GAWU
Hello Gawu, Thank you for your question. The R10000-UNWS MultiChoice Universal Rough Valve Body takes multiple valve cartridge assemblies. If you purchased a Monitor T13 or T14 Series trim kit, you will need RP46074 (included with the trim kit). The RP19804 will not work/fit into the R10000-UNWS valve. Best regards, Tanya

I have a R1000-UNWS installed on a new installation and my tiler removed the plaster guard and tossed it.  Tiler said they are not needed once tile is installed because the trim kit would not work with it left on. Do I need it to help line up the screws?

Asked by: craig
Hello Craig, Thank you for your question, Craig! We recommend installing/mounting the Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In Valve R10000-UNBX with the plasterguard so that it is even with the finished wall. Best regards, Tanya

R10000-unbx - how far should I set back in 2x4 wall?  Tile will finish 7/8 inch off of existing studs.  Should valve body with retainer be even with stud outside edge and secured in that position?  I want to endure handle is tight to wall when complete.

Asked by: Jeff
Hi, Jeff. Thank you for your question. The distance requirement from the finished wall to the stringer on the Delta MultiChoice Universal R10000-UNBX rough valve body is 2 3/4" ± 1/4" (70 mm ± 6 mm). I have the R10000-UNWS (with stops). After rough-in and cartridge, how far out to I need to unscrew the stops? I am getting low flow and wondering if I didn't unscrew them far enough, but I was worried they would come out of the body. Or do they stop?

Asked by: Hugh
Hi, Hugh! Thank you for your question. The screw stops on the R10000-UNWS will stop turning when fully open. You can turn the stops clockwise up to three full turns from the open position without a noticeable reduction in flow. Best Regards, Rosanna

Is this the right part to use with copper tubing. Is that the difference between the UNBXT and the UNBX?

Asked by: Kalona
Thank you for your question! All "UN" versions of the R10000 valve will have connections that accept 1/2" thread or 1/2" sweat. The UNBXT version includes a thin wall mounting kit, which the UNBX does not. If you have the trim kit, the escutcheon plate and the plaster guard provide enough support for the valve so that the thin wall kit is not needed. Best regards, Jon

Both the shower and tub spout run at same time

Asked by: Idmclean13
Thank you for your question. I apologize that you are having an issue and by your description, it sounds like you are having shower rise. This can occur when any of the following situations are not followed: 1) The distance between the tub spout and valve has to be between 8"-18". 2) Copper or iron pipe is the only thing that can be used between the tub spout and the valve. 3) There can only be one elbow from the valve to the tub spout. If any of these are not followed, you will have shower rise until the problem is corrected.

Is the plasterguard necessary?

I didn't realize the plasterguard was part of the assembly. Also, my opening is round not square as I am using a Kerdi membrane kit for my shower. Can I install this without the plasterguard? Thanks and good day.
Asked by: Eddie
Dear Eddie, Thank you for your inquiry! The Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In Valve R10000-UNBX contains a plasterguard that is used in aiding the installation of your faucet. It is not necessary to the functionality of the faucet. If you choose not to use the plastergaurd as a guide to cut the hole, please make sure that the hole is large enough to access the screw holes for the trim plate. Best regards, Tanya

what is the function of this valve

Asked by: Scott
Hello Scott, Thank you for your question. The Delta MultiChoice Universal Rough-In R10000-UNBX is the valve body that your hot and cold water supplies connect to and it holds the valve cartridge, which controls your shower or tub and shower trim on/off and temperature. Hi, I've purchased an R10000-UNBX valve body, an R11000 3/6 diverter rough in, overhead rain head, and set of 3 body sprays.  What valve(s) do I purchase to add separate volume controls to the rain can and to the body sprays?

Asked by: Craftydad
Thank you for your question, Craftydad! The R11000 diverting valve can be used with a 6-setting cartridge to allow you to switch between three individual products or ports with independent as well as shared positions. If two of the body sprays are used on the same port, then you will not need another valve. The diverter rough will switch between these sprays, the shower head, as well as the third spray both by themselves as well as in shared functions. This will also work if you are wanting all of the sprays on one setting. You will only need a 3-setting diverter cartridge for that type of installation in which you can use the shower head and sprays alone or at the same time. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions or need further assistance with this model. https://media.deltafaucet.com/MandI/70551%20Rev%20F.pdf Best regards, Edward

Use of pex between R10000 and R11000

I'm using your R10000 valve and R11000 diverter, for a fixed and hand-held shower installation (no tub.) Based on research I've already conducted I'm planning on installing the R10000 upside down (ie, using the tub spout outlet) and plugging the shower outlet instead, to maximize pressure to the diverter. The R10000 installation instructions stipulate one restriction only; that is, that copper MUST be used for the tub spout drop. My question, therefore, is this: can I use pex between the tub spout outlet and the diverter input? Thank you.
Asked by: gazzerp
Hi gazzerp, Thank you for your question. In your shower only application you can use pex tubing on the connection from the upside down tub port to the R110000 diverter rough. Thanks, Dave
