Classic, timeless design is always in style, but it’s also fun to spice things up with the latest trends. Keep in mind, though, that trends are only a guide—not rules to follow. The best spaces reflect your personality, point of view and the stories you want to tell. As your home improvement plans take shape, here are five trends to inspire and guide you along the way.

#1 Gold is Here to Stay

From decorative objects and hardware, to lighting and plumbing fixtures, gold is today’s go-to accent throughout the home. Light and dark golds—both polished and matte—are common across the style spectrum. Looking ahead, you can expect to see softer gold finishes with micro-texturing, such as knurling, hand etching or a mottled look.

Want to add a touch of gold but aren’t ready to go all in? Go ahead and mix it with other metals. “Mixing metals is common and welcomed in interior design,” notes Seth Fritz, lead designer and manager of design futures, Delta Faucet Company. “While it used to be eclectic, today it’s simply how we design in our homes.”

#2 Earthy Tones Warm the Home

If you want a quick, easy and budget-friendly way to update the look in your home, embrace color—from a new shade of paint to pops of color throughout your décor. In interiors, green is a design essential, but more color options are on the rise, including bold accents in blue, butter yellow, russet and plum. These warm, earthy hues create a cozy, inviting feel in any space.

#3 Wellness for Every Day

#3 Wellness for Every Day

While wellness has been commonly associated with self-care, it’s becoming a more holistic approach to everyday living—one that has an impact on both interior design and lifestyle choices. Today, wellness encompasses everything from the environments we live in to how we source our food and take care of our bodies, including the quality of the water we drink and bathe in.

A spa-like bathroom with a steam shower, sauna and soaking tub might be the ideal wellness retreat, but there are simpler ways to incorporate wellness into your everyday routine. You can start by simply organizing a busy, cluttered area (hello, bathroom vanity!) to create a more calming, relaxing space. Or create a closer connection to nature by adding plants or an outdoor seating area. You could even consider installing water filtration systems in the kitchen, bathroom and/or shower to get cleaner water every day.

#4 Heritage Revival

#4 Heritage Revival

If you’ve experienced déjà vu in fashion or interior design lately, the Heritage Revival trend probably explains why. From fashion houses and iconic shoe brands to cowboy core and 70s décor, the greatest hits are coming back.

“People enjoy things that remind them of the past,” says Julie Han, CMF lead designer, Delta Faucet Company. “This trend reflects a growing interest in retro and authentic materials, handcrafted details and artisanal textures.” Incorporating your favorite designs from the past into your home not only helps spark fond memories but also creates a mini retreat from the realities of today.

#5 Design that Works for You

#5 Design that Works for You

High-tech products are available for every room in the home—from smart thermostats that adjust to your schedule to digital showers that create a personalized shower experience. The rapid expansion of new technologies lets you choose products that enhance the way you live. Whether it’s touchless faucets that make cooking and cleanup easier in the kitchen or finishes that can be cleaned without chemicals, you can easily craft spaces that work harder for you, freeing up your time for the people and activities you enjoy most.

Even little changes can have a big impact on how you live every day, but don't be afraid to take some risks. Design is personal, not permanent, so have fun exploring and experimenting with new ideas in your home.
