are the o-rings for the rp1740 available seperate or do you have to buy the stem each time?

Thank you for your question. We do recommend to replace the whole stem unit assembly instead of just the o-ring for the Delta RP1740 Stem Unit Assembly.

The handle on tub has broken off. How do I remove the RP1740 stem?
I have the Neostyle white porcelain with chrome base handle which says HOT in black. It's two separate handles, with a spout which has the round pull down under it to turn on the shower, in the middle. None of the three are attached together. This was hit accidentally and broke off. White piece is in the handle, which I removed, and looks like the end of the RP1740 stem. What is the best way to remove the stem now that it's broken off at the tip? Can I use the RP25513 with the copper tip instead. If I do decide to replace the both handles, also with the neostyle, just in chrome or otherwise. What size would these be considered on the tub? It looks like the H27 is for a sink and could possibly be smaller then my tub handles but I'm not sure of this as the H27 also looks exactly like the tub handle. Same location for the set screw, same base shape & same grooves on the bottom of the base for attaching to next part. Also, I purchased the RP4993 seat and springs. Is this all I will need, the RP25513 and RP4993? Do I need any other o'rings or seals? Any extra advice welcome. Thank You
Asked by: Terri
Hi Terri, Thank you for your question. The part that you see exposed is probably the RP18627 stem extender. This piece fits on top of the RP1740 stem assembly. The chrome trim sleeve that covers this piece will unscrew and give you access to the stem and stem extender. Neo Style handles still available for your faucet include the H25, H27, and the H46. Substitute the RP24096 for the RP25513, and with the RP4993 will update the inner workings of the faucet.
Thanks,
Dave

How do I remove the seats&springs from my 2 handle faucet? Model # 2131.
Asked by: Trouble
Hi Trouble, Thank you for your question. To remove the seats and springs from your model 2131 faucet first shut off your water supply to the faucet. Pry off the hot/cold buttons on top of the handle to gain access to the screw holding on the handle. Remove the screw and the handle. Next unscrew the bonnet nut holding down the stem assembly, it will unscrew counter-clockwise. Once the bonnet nut is removed pull up on the stem assembly to remove it from the valve body. The seats and springs will be located in the valve body directly underneath the stem assembly. Use a small screwdriver to remove the seats and springs.
Here is a link to the parts breakdown of the model 2131 to help with your repair.

model 3577 replaced stems lost orientation
I was replacing the stems (24096) on my model 3577 and have forgotten the orientation of the stems and the 1/4 turns. On and off are now completely opposite. I've spent hours playing with different combos to no avail. At least it's not leaking anymore :)
Asked by: margoscin
Hi margoscin,
Thank you for your question! Below is a link to the instructions for the model 3577. Please refer to page 8 for the proper orientation of the stem unit. Install the stems so that the permanent stop portion is on the right. The removable 1/4 turn stop controls the direction that the handle will turn; it should be in the back on the cold side and in the front on the hot side. Please also verify that the valve is aligned properly under the sink.

Asked by: moe
Hi Moe, Thank you for your question. To stop the leak you will also want to replace the RP4993 seats and springs that are located directly underneath the RP1740 stem assembly in the valve body. The stem assembly rotates on top of the rubber seal to turn the water on and off and causes wear over time.

may unit resembles the rp1740 but is a 1/4 turn stop. What is the correct part?
Asked by: Steven
Thank you for your question, Steven! Both the RP25513 as well as the RP47422 stem unit assemblies will use a 1/4 turn stop, however this is a ceramic stem unit assembly and does not work with seats and springs whereas the RP25513 does. Please contact us directly if you are still unsure as these parts are model-specific and using the incorrect stem unit may lead to a leak.

Handles on faucet are now backwards?
I have a tub faucet, not sure of the model #, but it's from 2000 and it's the simple hot/cold 180 degree rotating handle on each side of the faucet type. Both sides started to leak, so I bought two replacement stems to fix them. Problem is, when the faucet's off, now both handles face inward instead of outward.
If I flip the stems 180 degrees, then the handles point in the correct direction when off, but rotate away from the tub to turn on, instead of rotating towards the tub as they previously did. I compared the old stem to this replacement stem, and they're different.
On the original stem, the flat side of the top part lines up with the opening in the metal plate. On the new part, the flat side lines up with the covered part of the metal base. They're fundamentally different designs, so there's no way I can see to flip/rotate either the stem or the handles to replicate the original operation.
Am I missing something here, or am I just out of luck?
Asked by: Corey
Hi Corey, Thank you for your question. It sounds like the stem assemblies are not oriented properly. The raised portion or the stop on top of the stem assembly should be facing to the right on both the hot and cold water sides. Once these are positioned properly your handles should work in the right directions.
Thanks,
Dave

What does the brass screw do that goes into the top of the stem?
Asked by: Andy
Thank you for your question, Andy! The RP1740 stem assembly will typically be used in conjunction with a knob handle which will require a screw to come through to hold the knob to the stem unit. Some models may also use the RP47191 extension screw.

How do I limit the travel of faucet handle?
I am replacing my older stem assemblies on my two-faucet bathroom sink. The orginal stems had an extra stop piece inserted to limit the travel of the handle to 90 degrees (handle points straight forward when fully on). The replacement stem (RP1740C) has no such insert, allowing a 180 deg travel. The old stop insert does not fit in the new stem. Is there an alternate method to stop the handle travel past 90 degrees?.
Thanks

Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet models RP1740 and RP25513 are interchangeable. You will want to note that the handles will turn 180 degress when you install the RP1740 and only 90 degress if you install the RP25513.

RP1740 turns in the wrong direction?
I have a Delta faucet, not sure I can correctly identify which one. But it looks a lot like the Classic two-handle centerset lavatory faucet (model 2520LF-A). I downloaded the user's manual for that one. It identifies the stem unit assembly as RP25513.
My problem was a leak from the right (cold water) handle. I opened up both handles, and found a stem unit assembly inside each that looks just like the RP25513. In particular, each has a 1/4 turn stop, placed to achieve symmetric operation. The left handle turns 1/4 counterclockwise, from pointing left (outward) when off to pointing toward me when on; the right handle turned 1/4 clockwise, from pointing right (outward) when off to pointing towards me when on.
I bought an RP1740 as a replacement, and installed it in the right-hand side. I did not notice any degree of freedom in placement or orientation. Now the right handle points right (outward) when off, and rotates 1/2 turn counterclockwise --- the opposite direction from the original stem. I see it is documented to turn 1/2 instead of 1/4, and that is not really a problem for me. My problem is that it turns in the wrong direction. When I rotate it just 1/4 turn, the handle is pointing away from me instead of towards me. I want mirror symmetry, not 180 degree rotational symmetry, in my faucet. Worse, that 1/4 turn orientation does not really work, I have to remove part of the handle because the back wall is close.
No, I did not exchange the handles. Each handle is in the same side it was originally on.
Is there some adjustment I can make so that the right side handle points right (outward) when off and towards me when on?
Thanks!
Asked by: mike
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # RP1740 may be installed backwards. I would remove the handle after turning off the water, then take out the cartridge and flip it 180 degrees.

Is there a difference between stem units RP1740 and RP24096?
For repair on a Roman Tub Faucet 2710.
Asked by: Arnold
Hi Arnold, Thank you for your question. The RP1740 will have a plastic stem where the handle attaches, the RP24096 will have a metal stem where the handle attaches. The rest of the assembly is the same. The RP1740 is used on knob style handles that screw onto the stem assembly from the top. The RP24096 is used with lever style handles that have a set screw that screws in from the side.

How do you remove that piece?
Asked by: OakMan
Thank you for your question, OakMan! The stem unit assembly is held in the valve with a bonnet nut. This will need to be removed with an adjustable wrench by turning counter-clockwise, prior to lifting out the stem unit. You will need to have the water supplies shut off before removing this bonnet nut. Please feel free to contact us directly if you have questions or need assistance.

Is there a brass equivalent? I start getting a drip about every 2 years, and replace my stems, seats, and springs. I thought I once saw a brass equal but not sure.
Asked by: Richard
Thank you for your question, Richard! The RP1740 stem assembly does not need replaced unless you are noticing a leak under the handle. The RP4993 seats and springs below the stem are the gaskets responsible for sealing off water flow when not in use. Stem units are model specific and we do not offer another option for this stem in brass.

Can I rebuild/overhaul RP24096 stem cartridge?
I recently replaced the stem cartridge (hot side, RP24096) as well as seat and spring for my Delta Kitchen Faucet model 2467. When I inspected the stem cartridge that was supposed to have caused the leak, I did not notice any visible defect in it except for barely visible wear mark on the steel bottom. My question to you is - what can I do to rebuild/overhaul the stem cartridge so that I'll be able to reuse it?
Asked by: Shaun
Hi Shaun, Thank you for your question. The seats and springs are the most likely issue when a faucet is leaking out of the spout. The cartridge often does not have to be changed in this situation. Cleaning the stem assembly and reinstalling with new seats and springs will usually stop the leak. The is no rebuild method/kit to the stem assembly itself, only replacement.
Thanks,
Dave
