PRODUCT FEATURES
Single-function valve cartridge controls the temperature at full output flow. Monitors water pressure to balance temperature. All Delta® tub and shower faucets are engineered to keep the water temperature within a safe ±3.6° F (±1.7° C)*. This technology makes sure your family doesn’t experience a sudden and possibly unsafe change in water temperature as a result of running water elsewhere, such as using a dishwasher, flushing a toilet or running a washing machine. The valve cartridge features an adjustable handle limit stop that, when properly set, helps ensure the handle cannot be turned to a position that is too hot for comfort*. The handle limit stop's integrated design allows easy adjustment via pull and turn. Easily replaced seals make maintenance a snap.
Comes with all Delta pressure balance tub and shower faucets.

Miserable quality, expensive paperweight
They don't last. We have two showers on opposite sides of the same wall running the same water. In shower #1, the cartridge is as old as anyone can remember. In shower #2, we replaced the cartridge a year ago. $200 contract labor plus the cost of the cartridge. It lasted 6 months and started its ever-worsening leak when turned to the off position. $200 more plus the cost of another cartridge. The new one just suffered the same failure as the last two, and had to be replaced again. Another $200 labor, another new cartridge cost.
We're down almost $1,000 this year alone on these defective Delta cartridges. I might as well buy the knockoffs that cost a quarter of what these cost if I'm going to have to have them replaced every 6 months.

I bought a shower cartridge on line from “guess who begins with an A”the part was identical but would not fit then I went down the local building supply store bought an delta OEM cartridge went home popped the cartridge in place and boom everything was air golden

REV RP19804 from
not enough hot water
new RP19804 cartridge installed but water just gets warm not hot enough and was not an issue prior to changing and changed due to minor drip. Other facets in the room are normal temp for hot water. What can be done?

Nothing Better Than OEM
Buying directly from Delta rubber stamps OEM components that are built to last. I've learned my lesson about the risk of selecting after market items or those that are advertised as compatible with OEM parts. If you're a DIY guy, especially when dealing with plumbing repairs, my advice is to buy OEM and enjoy significant savings on plumbers fees when the job is complete. More often than expected, 50-75% savings on a part can translate into the frustration of having to repeat the repair and do without for a longer duration until the OEM part is delivered. Being greedy has its unfortunate consequences, so trust Delta over third party sources!

Don't buy. Good luck getting warranty. I called the 1800 number for warranty and the message said 'in a department meeting, goodbye'. then hung up. Wow, an all-day-long department meeting....

I removed the old cartridge on the new cartridge it was marked hot water side. Knowing that most plumbers plumb the hot water on the left side I put the hot side on the left. It came out cold. Removed and turned 180 degrees the same cold for hot. Help!
Thank you for your question, Larry123! I'm very sorry for any confusion, however our cartridges have a rotational limit stop that allows you to adjust for hotter water. The cartridge comes pre-set to the coldest setting to prevent accidental scalding. Information on adjusting this setting can be found on page 8, step 4 of the maintenance and installation manual below.

On the 19804 lower housing there are rubber flaps. I have the 19804 and when I removed it someone had removed those rubber flaps. What is there purpose? Do they effect temperature, flow back, or flow rate?

You have the older Delta 1300/1400 series tub/shower. Your cartridge is the RP19804. Please be aware we have redesigned the cartridge so it will not look exactly like your original part but will work.

Difference between RP19804 and RP46074
What is the difference between these two replacement cartridges when both say they are for 14 series?
If you look at the enlarged picture of each cartridge, you will notice the RP46074 has longer insert tubes (about 1/4 ") that fit into the brass valve body. The RP19804, with shorter inserts, barely reach and seat into the hot and cold valve body ports. Therefore, the valve is going to constantly leak.

Can I use the RP19804 cartridge with the T17038-SS handle?
I have an older cartridge type that is being replaced with the RP1980R cartridge. At the same time, I was sold the T17038-SS handle/trim package which includes totally different cartridge. Can I use this handle assembly with the old cartridge style (RP19804)?
The new handle has 2 controls, one for temperature and one for volume. Will these 2 functions work with the old cartridge (RP19804)? My previous handle assembly had just handle one handle that controlled both volume and temperature.

Unfortunately, it sounds like you have a 1400 series Delta shower unit. You can only exchange your current trim for another 1300 or 1400 series trim and you must use the RP19804 cartridge if you have that cartridge already.
If you want to use the T17038-SS you would have to tear out your existing rough in valve and replace it with an R10000.

I want to replace my shower components along with this shower cartridge (RP19804). Am I restricted to buying a certain model/series of replacement parts because of this type of cartridge? Does this apply to all shower replacement parts?
Thank you for your question, Marc! The RP19804 is exclusive to the 1300/1400 Delta Monitor series. This valve body will only accept the RP19804 cartridge; however, newer T13/T14 valve trims can be used as well. These kits will include the current MultiChoice cartridge which will not fit into the older valve body. A current Universal MultiChoice valve such as the R10000-UNBX allows you to quickly and easily switch between the different series should you ever wish to upgrade.

The shower in my house built in 2003 has a Delta 1400 Monitor control and drips. The replacement how-to videos and online info all show a shower with a single control lever. My shower has a knurled knob. Will the RP19804 replacement cartridge work for me?

I have a home built in 1999 with a shower with an RP19804 cartridge. Can I get a thermostatic cartridge and trim to replace this cartridge?
Thank you for your question, BobG! Unfortunately, we do not have a thermostatic cartridge that is compatible with a 1400 Series valve. You may use any current 13/14 Series trim kit with the RP19804 cartridge. Otherwise, the valve would need to be replaced with an R10000.

How do I clean lime depsoits from the cartridge?

Thank you for your question. You can clean the cartridge by soaking it in white vinegar for about 15 minutes. This should help dissolve any mineral deposits.

How do adjust the temperature more?
I pull and adjusted toward the hotter as high as I could get it. It is not allowing me to adjust it anymore. The old model went further. The spout temp for water is 106 degree fahrenheit. I need it to be at the 120 marker.

Thank you for your question. The cartridge has a Rotational Limit Stop which can be adjusted to allow you turn the handle further on the hot side. Newer units will have a gray stop that you can pull out, rotate, and set back into place. Each notch will change the maximum temperature 3-6 degrees.

Shorter version available?
I am not sure which shower model I have because it's design is similar to so many of your units.
I brought my cartridge to Home Depot and the RP19804 looked like a match in the packaging, however now when I compare them side-by-side it's a millimeter too long.
What assembly is the next size down, but similar in all other ways?
Hi Jeremy, Thank you for your question. The RP19804 is the shorter version of the cartridge the legs of the newer RP46074 are longer. If the top of your existing cartridge is white or an off white then the RP19804 should be correct. There have been 4 slightly different versions of the RP19804 but they are interchangeable.

how do you remove the old unit

Thank you for your question. To remove the Delta RP19804 Valve Cartridge Assembly, first turn the water off at your water supply. Remove the handle using a 1/8" Allen wrench, remove the sleeve assembly, unscrew the bonnet nut counterclockwise. Pull the cartridge assembly straight out, do not twist or turn the cartridge as it may unscrew the cartridge from the middle and lodge the bottom part in the cartridge in the valve body. If this occurs, the bottom part of the cartridge can be removed by taking out two flat head screw drivers or old butter knives and work one on either side of the cartridge. Once in place, work the cartridge out by moving the flat head screw drivers/old butter knives side to side. This will bring the cartridge to the front of the valve.

What is the difference between the RP19804 and RP46074? I have a pre 2006 home but no paperwork on the shower faucets.

Thank you for your question. The Delta RP19804 valve cartridge assembly is white in color and fits a 1300/1400 valve body manufactured before 2006. The Delta RP46074 valve cartridge assembly is gray in color and fits our MultiChoice R10000 rough valve body manufactured after 2006.

I installed this cartlidge. It fits perfectly with no leaks but, it twists in the opposite direction of the original, and the tempreature of the hot water coming out is just warm. Please help

Replaced cartridge, have parts left
I have a 1300/1400 series Monitor faucet. I removed the old cartridge which had a brass ring with teeth and a plastic limit stop disc. Both of these pieces came off separately. When I installed the replacement cartridge RP19804 (house was built in 1999) there was no room for the brass or plastic piece. I see the new one has it already incorporated but wanted to make sure that I was not to utilize these two left over pieces. I have watched many videos but no one is installing the cartridge that I bought at Home Depot that has the limit stop incorporated in the piece...similar, but not the same. Everything seems to work. Please advise. Thank you!

I pulled the cartridge out and only the white part came out and I can not get the blue part out to replace the springs and seals. It was very hard to pull the white part out (i.e. not like in the video). Any ideas, tips or tricks to remove the blue part

I would like to update my older Monitor Series 1400 trim (leaks, heavily stained) with a newer 14 series without replacing the valve body (brass). Does RP46074 fit into and operate with the later valve bodies or am I stuck with RP19804 and the old trim.

Thank you for your question. As long as the screw holes on your large round escutcheon plate are at the 1 and 7 o'clock positions and you do not have a push button shower diverter directly below the off and on handle, then any of our trim kits that start with a T13 or a T14 will interchange for you. All of our current available trim kit options are shown on our website at www.deltafaucet.com. The cartridges that come with the new trim kits will not fit your valve body, so you will need to reuse your existing cartridge (RP19804).

O-Rings
Can replacing the O-rings on an RP19804 fix my leaking shower head issue? When I push in on the shower handle the dripping stops, when I ease up on the handle the dripping starts.
Hi Donny, Thank you for your question. If you do not want to replace the entire cartridge you will want to replace the RP4993 seats and springs on the inside of the cartridge. The o-rings on the legs of the cartridge are avaialble to order as RP14414.

Any current T13/T14 trim kits will also work with this cartridge but please note these trim kits will include a MultiChoice cartridge that will not work with the original Monitor rough-in valve body and you will need to continue using the RP19804 cartridge instead.

the faccuet leaked I replaced my 1300/1400 series with a RP19804
Now the handle dose not rotate the 90 degrees only 45 and the water on gets warm. I checked the old cartage and it has type P stamp above the letter H. It also has TO41O along side the H. Do l need a different cartridge?

Thank you for your question. You may adjust the rotational limit stop (RLS) on the front of the cartridge to allow for hotter water. To do this, access the cartridge by removing the handle, pull the RLS out toward you, rotate it counter-clockwise, and release it. Each notch represents about 6º F. Please be sure to measure the water at the hottest setting so that it is not above what is allowed by your local plumbing code (110º F or 120º F).

Can you put the RP70538 cartridge in the place of the 1300/1400 series cartridge?
I have an existing tub faucet at my house. The house was built in 1998 and I am assuming that the cartridge in the valve is the original. I purchased the Foundations 1-Handle Tub and Shower Faucet in Chrome Model # B114900 in hopes that I can just take off the trim and remove the cartridge and replace with the new one. Will this work or would i need to replace the valve? The attached photo is what is on my tub now.

The B114900 trim and cartridge will not work with your existing valve body. You would have to replace the valve body or use a T13/T14 series trim with your original valve. The T13/14 trim options will include and multi choice cartridge that you will not be able to use. You will need to use your existing rp19804 cartridge.

I will be replacing the cartridge from the Monitor 1400 from circa 2004 with RP19804. While I have the unit open, should I also install RP4993? That is, if the 1400 utilizes those springs and seals.

Thank you for your question. The valve cartridge assembly RP19804 comes with RP4993 in the middle of it. The extra RP4993 are not needed if the full cartridge is being replaced.
