DELTA DESIGN ISSUE & HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT!
DO NOT BUY THIS REMODEL RING! The center hole is exactly 5" in diameter, and most Delta shower sets include a seating ring (part #: RP51035 - bracket & screws) that is only 5 2/8" on the outermost oval of the flanges. That only leaves 1/8" of maximum overlap on either side of that seating ring to hold onto and stay seated against the remodel plate so that the Escutcheon & Gasket (part #: RP100723 - or whichever round shower plate your set includes) can then be twisted on to seat securely against the remodel ring. The tiniest bit of twisting torque to mount the round escutcheon plate of your shower set causes the seating ring to fall back inside of the remodel plate, making a secure seal impossible. THIS IS A DELTA DESIGN DEFECT; IT IS NOT A FEATURE! If Delta had made the oval wings on part #RP51035 bracket just 1/4" wider, it would easily hold solidly against the remodel plate and never fall back inside when trying to mount the round shower faceplate. My plumber kluged a fix for this by using metal sheetrock anchors and screw in both of the outer flange holes. This kluge enabled the bracket to then be solidly attached to the remodel plate, allowing the round escutcheon plate to then be twisted and tightened against the remodel plate for a tight fit.
Delta Customer Service was beyond useless. Their rep told me that "the RP290827 remodel plate isn't compatible with some of the Delta shower sets." I asked her which ones and why it didn't list those incompatible models on the Delta website for this remodel plate. I asked her for the URL/Link on the Delta website where it showed those incompatible models. She couldn't produce it. She seemed to indicate that she had a memo that explained this, which I asked her to email to me. She refused and said "I don't have any way to send this to you." Minutes earlier she had already texted and emailed me an exploded parts view of the shower set we had purchased, but she somehow couldn't find a way to text or email me this mysterious internal memo that said that many Delta shower sets are incompatible with this remodel plate, nor could she point me anywhere on their website that said the same. I told her that I was recording this part of our call for "quality assurance purposes" and she got angry and said that she didn't want me to do that. I'm willing to post that recording for the rest of the community to hear just how inept and worthless the Delta Customer Support team really is, and how they deny, delay and deflect (DDD) legitimate customer issues. She connected me to a supervisor, who spoke to me for 3-4 minutes with similar useless excuses (which I also recorded), and then that supervisor just hung up on me. I didn't swear, get belligerent or out of control at any point during that conversation, so having her hang up on me was beyond unprofessional.

An inexpensive way to convert 3 handles to 1 handle
We were happy to learn that this cover plate could convert our three handle shower/tub unit into a one handle unit. This allowed us to upgrade to this newer format without having to tear out all the tiling in the shower/tub area. Our new shower unit is brushed nickle, which is a slighty different from this cover plate so it is not a perfect match, but it is fine.

Delta does indeed need to fix the description up above, claiming this is brass. Still, the complaints are surprising. Outside the very expensive high end shower products, everyone's trim plates are plastic, specifically because consumers are unwilling to pay for brass at that spot. The Delta trim set you're installing with this, has a lot of plastic (because you - yes you - won't pay what it costs otherwise). Considering this item exists entirely to provide an economical way to change from old technology to new (safer, code compliant) technology, of course it is made of the more economical material. Plastic is only problematic if someone over-tightens during installation.

Cheaply made and not brass as advertised
This product is grossly overpriced. It is a piece of black plastic painted with oil oil rubbed bronze paint. I can’t imagine that it would hold up for any length of time.

Any plans on manufacturing the Shower Renovation Cover Plate in additional finishes? Specifically, Champagne Bronze, so the cover plate would match the other fixtures I wanted to install?
Hi Barbara, Thank you for your question. We currently offer the RP29827 in chrome, brilliance polished brass(PB), brilliance stainless(SS), and our venetian bronze(RB) finishes. We review the need for new products on a frequent basis, including finish trends. For the time being we are not offering this item in the champagne bronze(CZ) finish.

Thank you for your question. The renovation cover plate will work with the model 144720-SS. It can be used with the T14253-SSH2O as well, however, the corners of the escutcheon plate will extend past the raised circle in the center of the renovation cover plate. You may use clear silicone to help provide a water tight seal.

Will this color, venetian bronze, go with faucet 144984-OB-A, which is oil rubbed bronze??

Thank you for your question. These are similar finishes, but not an exact match. Venetian Bronze is a dark, warm brown with bronze highlights throughout the finish. Oil Rubbed Bronze has more contrast. It is a very dark brown (nearly black) with bronze highlights along the edges. We recommend comparing them at the store before purchasing.

Will these two work together
Will this kit work with BT14496-OB
Hi Mark, Thank you for your question. You can use the RP29827RB with the faucet model BT14496-OB to cover up the holes from an old 2 or 3 handle faucet. However there is a difference between the oil rubbed bronze(OB) finish and the venetian bronze(RB) finish. The oil rubbed bronze has more of the dark brown finish than the venetian bronze does. The 2 finishes are in the same color family, but not an exact match. The RP29827 is not avaialble in the OB finish.

Does not fit as the wall was cut bigger than the plate is now It was oblong before,now its smaller and oval I guess I will have to buy everything new and a different brand that will fit
