PRODUCT FEATURES
Dual-function valve cartridge maintains a consistent water temperature from one shower to the next. Monitors water pressure to balance temperature. All Delta tub and shower faucets are engineered to keep the water temperature within a safe ±3.6° F (±1.7° C)*. This technology makes sure your family doesn’t experience a sudden and possibly unsafe change in water temperature as a result of running water elsewhere, such as using a dishwasher, flushing a toilet or running a washing machine. The valve cartridge features an adjustable handle limit stop that, when properly set, helps ensure the handle cannot be turned to a position that is too hot for comfort*. Easily replaced seals make maintenance a snap.
This cartridge is included with tub and shower trim packages.
*Requires inlet water temperature be set correctly. May require seasonal adjustments.

NOT Universal - beware!!!!
This replacement valve is NOT a Universal fit as is stated. I just spent $100 for nothing! I will be contacting the company. If you have a 17 or 1700 series shower and it is leaking, chances are you just need to replace the seat springs and seals. This cartridge does not fit because it has two triangular notches on either side that should fit flat into the shower receptacle stem, but mine has a one sided square notch, which means this one cannot seat properly in the stem. My shower is circa 2004??? Not happy.

Frustrating; Don’t Purchase Series 17 Products!!!
I did a bathroom remodeling and installed the valve body and this valve in the new tiled shower. I have had to replace this valve every 8 - 12 months over the last several years as it develops a constant drip from the shower head. This house has numerous plumbing fixtures but only this one has been a consistent problem. If it wasn’t for all the work to remove and replace the tile, I’d pull out this combination and replace it with another manufacturer as this situation appears to normal for this valve. This week I have another dripping shower after replacing this valve last year. With the consistent failure rate of this particular product, I’m inclined to move away from your products as the quality appears to be in decline. I have another shower in this house that has worked flawlessly for almost 30 years but not this one as it barely lasts one year. I think the longest stretch without a dripping shower head may have been around 14 months which is extremely poor performance for any shower valve. I would not recommend anyone purchase a series 17 product to avoid being in the same situation I find myself in regularly.

I purchased This pc-of CRAP after I had purchased the Delta edge shower walls ,and bass .tested it before I put My shower kit in it worked ok then I purchased the shower door kit .then the shower value would not work .DELTA and J D POWER CAN KISS MY ---

46463 piece of crap
Almost $100 and it doesn’t work. Handle turns on and off way too easily and it does not stop turning so the hot and cold sides were getting switched. I was unable to turn the water off at one point. I tried to troubleshoot it for about 2 weeks. Waste of time and money. I bought it at ace hardware and obviously no longer have the packaging or receipt… I reinstalled my old one and continue to have a constant drip. How annoying

Tub spout has a constant drip after 10 months
Just had mine replaced after 10 months because of a constant drip. The contractor mentioned that other customers are having issues with this cartridge leaking and are replacing them. Hopefully delta will fix this problem.

Not so good!
The assembly has leaked from the start. The valve has been replaced, the diverter cartridge is now being replaced again. It still drips through the shower head. This is a brand-new installation of a brand-new shower. I am ready to totally take the hardware out and replace it with some other vendor's.

free replacement of the delta cartridge
i am the owner. customer service was excellent. no hassles. no arguments. simply offered to replace the current, 5 year old cartridge with a new one. i would buy a delta faucet again

Not Happy!
I have been in contact with delta several times & the info keeps changing. Shower developed a leak after only 6 yrs in new construction home with one user. We lived in previous home (2 of us) 24 yrs new construction & NEVER had any plumbing issues - Moen was used. Same county, same hard water. I'm upset with all the conflicting info. Latest conversation per delta C.S. today is that it would be much easier to replace cartridge BUT they're sending parts to REBUILD the current cartridge. Will not send new cartridge. Unbelievable. Thanks alot for making an easier method unavailable (that was sarcasm by the way not an actual "thanks").

Are you serious?
I pay $225 for a bathroom tub fixture to make it handicapped accessible. Now they want half the price to replace the cartridge to stop a leak? So much for Delta standing behind their products? This is second time this has had issues. It was a major job installing it to water source so I am stuck with it.

Delta Universal Shower Valve
About 5 years ago I installed my Delta "Ara" shower mixing valve and diverter valve. Then 3 weeks agp I lost pressure on the hot water side. I emailed Delta with a question regarding the cartridge and 5 days later received a new cartridge in the mail, free of charge. I replaced the cartridge and all is wonderful now! Thank you Delta!!

Great Replacement
I watched a video from Delta that told me how to take the faucet apart in order to find out the part number. After receiving the ordered part, I then watched the video and was able to change the Delta - RP46463 myself without needing to call a plumber. Delta is a great company. Thank you!

Missing piece on cartridge
Plumber tried to install, but faucet wouldn’t shut off. R46463 cartridge was missing end piece that rests against adapter. Very frustrating since it is not pictured in the diagram.

You can replace it by yourself
We have very hard water that causes mineral deposits so we are forced to replace the cartridge assembly every other year. We keep a spear so we do not have to wonder if the part will not be in stock. The installation instructions are excellent and the whole process can be done in less than 1/2 hour and save lot of money.

I just bought this house. In the master bath, the hot and cold water are reversed. Are the lines hooked up backwards?
Hi Doc, Thank you for your question. You should just be able to remove the cartridge, rotate the cartridge 180 degrees, and reinstall to solve this issue. I have attached a picture of this step from the installation manual to guide you.

1700 Series Shower only, New House Mid 2008
Shower when I turn handle to far left for hot water from cold, the water pressure drops and not much hot water comes out. If I move handle back to the right pressure goes high but it is only cold water. I took off both hadles & unscrewed the screw & removed grey plastic lever and & the black round plastic part. The cartridge is grey and says #46463, Type P. There is a Brass fitting holding the cartridge in. Is there adjustments that can be done with either the grey plastic lever or the black round plastic part because both have grooves on outer edges? How does Cartridge come out? Brass won't turn. Please assess.
Thank you for your question. It sounds like your rotational limit stop may need adjusting. Included here are the instructions on how to do this. This will allow more hot water to come through your valve. The instructions are on page 9.

How can the cartridge be removed on the monitor 1700 series?
Thank you for your question. Removing Delta Faucet part # RP46463 can be done by first turning off the water and then removing the handle. This should expose the cartridge to be able to remove it. Sometimes the trim sleeve may have to be removed also to get a better grip on the cartridge but it will slide out of the valve.

How do I adjust the cartridge for the water to get hotter. No problem with tub faucet in same bath.
Thank you for your question. Your cartridge contains a rotational limit stop that can be adjusted to allow more or less hot water to flow through the valve. Included here are the instructions for adjusting your limit stop. The directions are on page 9 of the booklet.

Is this compatible with Delta Lewiston shower valve?

Does cartridge RP 46463 work with the Lahara T2738SS2 handle Roman tub fixture. Note I am installing the new fixture with older (2002) existing rough in for an older Delta tub fixture.
