Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fix Spout Drip Replaced the RP4993 springs/seats and RP70 ball in my 20+ year old Waterfall faucet and it works like brand new again. It dripped from spout unless you cocked the on/off lever to slightly off-center in either direction. It was like a 15 min job. No drips! I was able to identify the faucet from Delta’s excellent website and order the parts direct from Delta rather than trusting aftermarket junk.

I just had a #470 faucet from an old sink installed into a new one. The faucet leaks when I turn it on. What parts are needed to repair it?

Wondering what parts I need to get to repair this leak
Asked by: Jo
Hi Jo, The older models of the 470 use the RP70 ball assembly, RP61 cam assembly, and the RP4993 seats and springs as the internal components. If the faucet is dripping from the spout changing the seats and springs should resolve the issue. Since 2008 the model 470-DST uses the RP50587 valve cartridge to control the water. Thanks, Dave

Which way is up/down to install the gaskets?

Asked by: Paul
Thank you for your question. If the springs were to be set on a table, the wide part should be at the bottom with the more narrow part at the top. The seats are then set on top of the springs.

How do you install seats and springs (part RP4993) in a Delta model 2530 two handle faucet?

Asked by: rbruha44
Hello Rbruha44, Thank you for your question. Here are the instructions for installing a new set of seats and springs in your faucet: First shut off the water supply to the faucet. Next remove the faucet handles. A Phillips head screw located below the plastic cap on top of the handle holds on knob handles. Pry off the plastic cap with a butter knife or a small screwdriver to gain access to the Phillips head screw. For lever handles, you should find either an exposed Phillips head screw on the top of the handle or, on newer faucets, a set screw on the side of the handle below the lever. The set screw can be loosened with a 3/32" Allen wrench. Unscrew the bonnet nut. You will then be able to pull the stem unit assembly out of the valve body. The seat and spring will also just lift out of the valve body. You may also need to flush out the valve body. Place a pitcher or bucket upside down over the open valve and turn the water back on full strength for 5 to 10 seconds. Do this on both the hot and cold sides. After the allotted time, turn the water off. The wide part of the new spring goes down into the hole first. The larger opened side of the new seat then fits down over the narrow part of the spring and also goes down into the hole. Reinstall the stem units, bonnet nuts and handles in the reverse order. Best regards, Tanya

Once the spring and Seagate in place , should the seat stuck up higher than the metal? R should it be flush with the metal?

Asked by: Kitty
Hi, Kitty! Thank you for your question. The seat sits onto the smaller end of the spring and can be higher than the metal that the parts sit into. Once the ball assembly or stem assembly is pushed into the valve, the seat and spring will sit more flush into the valve. Best Regards, Rosanna

how do I replace the seats & springs in 13/14 series? Seat & spring part # is RP4993. Thank You!

Asked by: johnny K1
Thank you for your question, johnny K1! Before you begin this repair, please make sure that the water supply is shut off to the unit, room or home. You can then remove the handle by popping off the cover and removing the screw with an allen wrench, either 3/32" or 1/8". Next, unscrew the bonnet and pull out the stem unit. You can then use a pencil or Allen wrench to scoop out the seats and springs. Reassemble in the reverse order, making sure the spring goes into the valve with the wider end first and the seat on the smaller end. https://www.deltafaucet.com/video-gallery/video-page-1?videoId=O-pCJdvD4oc Best regards, Edward

If the seats or springs are cracked, split, dried-out can that cause water hammer when the toilet is flushed?

The toilet is right next to the tub.
Asked by: beahaven
Hi Beahaven, Thank you for your question. Dried out seats would not cause water hammer. Water hammer occurs when a valve or other control device closes abruptly, causing the moving column of water inside a pipe to come to a sudden stop. The issue is more likely with the toilet than the tub/shower faucet. Thanks, Dave

I have a Delta Shower faucet that was installed in 1987. It is the type where you push up to open and turn left or right for hot or cold. There is an indicator on the plastic knob indicating left (red) and right (Blue). From the catalog, it appears to be a Classic Monitor 13 Series. The faucet is now leaking. Should I replace the seats and springs or the entire cartridge? What are the replacement part numbers?
Asked by: chuck
Thank you for your question. Based on the description of your faucet, you have a 600 series faucet. There should be a ball assembly inside your valve. We recommend replacing the seats and springs which are Delta Faucet model # RP4993 and replacing the ball assembly which is Delta Faucet model RP70. You can purchase these from your local wholesaler or retailer.
