What tool can be used to loosen the RP50?

My kicten handle is leaking and I what to replace the RP50. I can't remove by hand I believe that it's been over tighten. So is there a tool that can be used to loosen it with to much damage to the finish?
Asked by: Coach
Hi, Coach! Thank you for your question. You can use a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water mix. We recommend to soak a towel/washcloth in the mix and wrap the soaked towel/washcloth around the cap for an hour or even overnight to loosen. If the cap needs more help after this soak, try an adjustable wrench or a strap wrench. Best Regards, Rosanna

What is the proper adjustment procedure for the plastic adjustment ring on the RP50 cap?

I have a Delta M/N 100 single handle kitchen faucet that has a P/N RP50 cap with a plastic adjustment ring (rather than the P/N RP 1050 cap). The spanner portion of the Delta tool is made to use to adjust this plastic adjustment ring. This plastic adjustment ring will vary the compressive force between the ball (P/N RP70) and the seat springs (P/N RP4993) as well as vary the amount of "reveal" of the seats outside of the stationary valve body interior (where the seats meet the ball). My previous efforts to adjust this ring seem to have resulted in either too little or too much compressive force being exerted between the seal/springs and the ball which seems to have significantly reduced the service life of the seals. Exactly what is the proper procedure for making this adjustment? Any help you can provide me on this adjustment procedure would be greatly appreciated.
Asked by: AB
Hi AB, Thank you for your question. There is not a standard measurable amount that the adjusting ring is tightened. The ring should be tight enough to prevent the faucet from leaking but not over tight to the point that the ball assembly is difficult to move causing more wear on the seats and springs. One solution to the issue would be to order the newer 1 piece RP61 cam assembly that does not use the adjusting ring. The adjusting ring would be removed from the RP50 cap when the cap is used with the new RP61 cam assembly eliminating the need to make any adjustment. Thanks, Dave

Can you use wd-40 to help loosen cap nut RP50 from a 600 series bath/shower valve?

Asked by: jc75
Hi jc75, Thank you for your question! Yes, you can attempt to use WD-40 is there is rust present. However, we definitely recommend wrapping a cloth soaked in a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water as the issue is typically due to mineral buildup within the threads of the cap and not rust.
