Beware before buying, most of the parts are under lifetime warranty from manufacturer but this company does not advise you of that. Part was fine and works but should have been free.

complaint about telephone customer service
this is in the wrong placement area but i did not allow for forced location of complaint
there is no way to encounter a human voice to interrupt the aimless advertising you are subjected to while waiting for an assistant this is i hope a repair waiting for assistance line and i am dismayed at the incessant how good are delta products when you are waiting for repair assistance
i hope some one can eventually figure this out at delta and remove all the sales pitches maybe some music would be better

Fixed the leak
My 3 year old sink was leaking such that you had to find the sweet spot to stop the faucet from dripping. I read on this web page that this part would solve the problem. It did.

Perfect!
The package arrived very soon after being ordered; it was not a rush shipment either. The cartridge was easily replaced resolving an increasing slight drip problem. This Delta faucet in the kitchen has also seen a lot of use in the past 4 years with a 6-person family. A replacement cartridge was not found at the local home improvement stores. If there would have been one, it most likely would have cost a lot more too. Very satisfied with the transaction and as a first-time customer.

Better than the original
Faucet worked very well, but after 7 or 8 months it would leak unless you turned it off from the exact middle or from the cold side.
Finally replaced the cartridge , works great, turns off from any angle with no drips.

can't tell which parts work on-line
The 5-6 parts shown in the exploded diagram of my faucet model were no longer available. So I chose the all-in-one integrated replacement shown above. Unfortunately, that unit could not be inserted into my earlier model. So I am stuck with an unusable $34 part. The only parts that were helpful were an O-ring and the new handle. I had stripped the set screw threads on the old handle.

It works
Don't know what happened to the original one, it seems to have gotten clogged with pieces of a rubber washer. But the new one works flawlessly!

Trial shot
After losing water pressure rapidly after a relatively short period of time we initially diagnosed the problem in the control valve. We then ordered the replacement part thinking the original had become clogged by sediment from the lines. After reassembly and water turn-on, the situation was not corrected and I had to disconnect and blow out the line to the pull-out faucet. Reassembled everything and all is working fine now and we have a spare control valve. This valve works just like the original and we are quite satisfied.

what does the red button do? How is it to be set?

Thank you for your question. The button on top of the cartridge is a handle limit stop. This faucet includes an integrated handle limit stop that has two positions.
When you position the button to the left, this position allows full handle motion (the full range between “all cold” to “all hot”). The faucet is set in this position in the factory. When you position the button to the right, this position allows half of the normal handle motion (“all cold” to “mixed hot/cold”).
The handle limit stop can be adjusted by the homeowner once the faucet
is installed. Setting the handle limit stop in the second position may help to prevent scalding because it limits the amount of hot water in the mix.
To change positions of the handle limit stop: remove the handle;
move the valve stem to the all cold position so the water is on; change
the position of the handle limit stop; turn off the water; reinstall
the handle.

I have an Older Delta model Faucet, pull down, 3 years old maybe. Is this cartridge universal?
Thank you for your question, Techman23! While the RP50587 cartridge is compatible with several Single Handle Delta Kitchen Faucets manufactured after 2010, it is not a universal cartridge. Some newer Delta single handle kitchen faucets take an RP60114 cartridge, and some take an RP73000 cartridge. Some single handle faucets have a ball assembly with seats and springs, instead of a cartridge.The part number for the cartridge can be found in the Parts Diagram, under the Documents & Specs tab on the faucet's web page.
