REVIEWS
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Sailing Following a Careful Disassembly I rebuilt our 1987 acrylic knob Series 600 shower valve using the RP54870 Conversion Kit (in Chrome finish). As per "Chris H" review, I had also bought an RP77739A kit "just in case", as we had the diamond-shaped stem that he mentions. However, I found we did not need the additional kit to complete our repair as the ball included in the RP54870 Kit worked just fine for our application. A note of caution - many people have posted online about how they broke the shower valve body when attempting to remove the old Cap Assembly (5) because it was stuck. Apparently it's not difficult to twist and break or distort some hidden tubes which are part of the valve body inside the wall. I was fortunately able to unscrew our Cap Assembly quite easily. In fact, I checked it by giving it a quarter turn before ordering new parts. Once the parts arrived, I shut off the water supply and carefully disassembled everything. After disassembly, I wiped down and inspected the metal valve body, including two (stainless steel?) sleeves in the body which house the Seats and Springs (10). I checked for burrs, scratches, deposits, corrosion, or foreign matter. I removed some minor mineral deposits on the exterior threads by wiping them with a cloth. I applied plumber's grease to all new rubber parts, including the Seats and Springs (10). I carefully inspected them after installing to make sure they were fully inserted into the sleeves before attempting the next step. I fit the included Conversion Ball (8) with the 4 Holes (Up) and the Large Single Hole (Down), just as the instructions illustrate. When installing the new Cam and Lip seal (9) over the Conversion Ball, I found that the dark gray plastic seal housing had to be oriented properly to match a raised rib on the plastic with a slot on the right side of the metal valve body's threaded section. Following reassembly, the refurbished valve works very well. It operates smoothly and allows us to select a broad range of temperatures. Hopefully we can enjoy good service for a few more decades now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading instructions The instructions are misleading: RP54870SS doesnt work with existing installations and Delta faucets with #212 ball with diamond stem. I needed to buy Delta RP77739A kit to get it to work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Misleading "H" and "C" markings on the plate I purchased RP54870SS to retrofit my old Delta leaking faucet. I folowed the instructions and the installation went good (no leaks), but when I turned the handle clockwise where "C" (cold) mark on the plate is, the hot water came out. When I turned the handle counterclockwise to "H" marking the cold water came out...I checked the instruction and section 9 says: " 9. Verify that hot water comes out of the valve when the lever handle is turned fully clockwise." So I did it corectly. There's a discrepancy between the plate markings and the valve operation. I'll give 2 stars for the quality materials through and I'm looking for stickers with "H" and "C" to correct the plate markings to match the valve operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keep an old Delta 600 shower valve setup alive Perfectly designed to refurb the old Delta 600 tub and shower valve, provided that you can get the previous parts to come loose. All the visible parts are metal, rather than plastic. Yeah! Warning: Getting the old outermost metal cap unscrewed from the valve body can be difficult because of corrosion. Forcing it loose with hard pressure using a wrench will cause a disastrous water leak behind the valve, inside the wall, and unless your house is unusual, the only way to stop the leak will be to shut off the water to the entire house. Then you will be faced with having to get into the wall and replace the entire valve and valve body. Your refurbishing kit will not fit the new valve, since it is designed to fit the old valve. So, then you will have to also buy a new trim kit in addition to the valve body and new valve. (Tip: When I had this problem some years ago, I installed shutoffs for the shower lines while the water was turned off, so that the water could be turned on to the rest of the house. But then my water lines were available for access in the basement. Without such access, you'll have to cut a hole in a wall or ceiling to get at the water lines.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delta faucet 600 series replacement. This Delta replacement faucet handle for 600 series faucet is a great upgrade. Also the instructions are written so almost any one can do the replacement.
Date published: 2023-08-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Delta discontinued important components I sent photos of my existing trim to Delta, and this was recommended as the replacement. Unfortunately, the escutcheon plate is not the deep kind in my existing trim, and the kind in this kit is not deep enough. Even more unfortunately, Delta *discontinued* the deep escutcheon plates. So what could have been a simple shower upgrade project within my carefully saved budget now will not happen, because I would have to remove and redo my entire shower - including permits to change the plumbing to work with shallower escutcheon plates. This poor review does not reflect on the Delta customer service reps, who tried to be helpful. It is only about the incredibly inconsiderate decision by Delta to discontinue the deep escutcheon plates with no regard for their customers.

Q&A

Do these kits come in brushed nickel Renovation Kit - 600 Series Tub & Shower

Asked by: RFSoup
Hi, RFSoup! Thank you for your question. The finish for the Delta RP54870SS renovation kit is in our Brilliance Stainless Steel. This will be the closest to the 'Brushed Nickel' that you are looking for as the Brilliance Stainless Steel is 'Brushed'. Best Regards, Rosanna

I want to get a restoration kit. How do i know which model i have right now?

Asked by: Leelee
Thank you for your question, Leelee. If you have a Delta tub/shower faucet that the handle lifts up to turn the water on and tilts left or right for temperature control, then you have a 600 Series unit. The series number may also be on the escutcheon plate directly below the handle. Best regards, Jon

Looks like we currently have a 641 set in gold. And we are wanting to upgrade to the stainless renovation kit.

Is this available as a complete set? Shower arm, faucet and on/off valve? What are the part numbers for the replacement faucets for the 600 series? And how to you determine if you have a slip on or screw on faucet? Thanks!
Asked by: Bev
Hello Bev, Thank you for your question! The RP54870 600 series renovation kit comes with the escutcheon(face plate), screws, sleeve, dome shaped cap assembly, lever handle and internal parts. You will have to order your choice of shower head, shower arm, shower flange and tub spout separate. All of our tub spouts fit onto 1/" connection. If your current tub spout has a screw on the underside it is a slip on and if it does not you have a threaded connection. Best regards, Brandis

Coordinating parts?

I plan on purchasing the stainless version to replace an old 600 series trim. What tub spout and tub drain/overflow switch coordinate with this? Also, It currently has a push button diverter that leaks a bit and part of the water flow is still coming out of the tub spout when the shower is turned on. Will plugging the existing push button diverter and using this kit with a new spout diverter fix these issues? The current set is at least 20 years old if not older. Thank you!
Asked by: Jen
Hi Jen, Thank you for your question. The plug for the push button diverter is the RP2865. The overflow plate is RP6403SS, screws RP6404SS, and the drain strainer is RP7430SS. We have several styles of tub spouts like the model RP17453SS, or the RP19820SS that will match the new trim. Thanks, Dave

Redoing a shower and plan to install R10000-UNBXHF or -UNWSHF valve.  I believe that I will need RP46074 to go with it.  For the trim we have RP54870SS.  Will this trim work with the valve and cartridge or do you recommend something else? Thanks.

Asked by: Doug
Thank you for your question, Doug! The RP54870SS Renovation kit is meant for an older 600 series which uses a ball valve rather than a cartridge. The RP46074 cartridge will only work with a current Multichoice valve and 13/14 trim kit. Below is a link to our current 13/14 shower trims. Please note, these kits will include the RP46074 cartridge. https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/showering/tub-and-shower-faucets?categories=Delta_Bathroom_Showering_Tub+and+Shower+Faucets_Shower+Valve&ValveType=Single-function+pressure+balance+cartridge Best regards, Edward

Push Button Diverter Conversion

I have read that this doesn't contain all of the parts necessary to convert a push button style diverter; however, in the Review section someone references using a brass plug and using a pull up or pull down spout. Would you please point me in the right direction on what sort of plug is needed? I don't have access to the back of the wall and would like to avoid cutting out tile. Thank you!

Want to clearly understand my options for replacing what appears to be a 600 series....

Would like to go from brass to polished chrome. Would LOVE to upgrade to something newer and more updated, like Dryden or similiar, with an added handheld attachment on the arm, but need to understand what I'm getting into. Am I understanding the below correctly? 1) If I choose to truly upgrade to the newest on the market, maybe Dryden, then that will require a tear out of tile or wall behind shower to completely replace value, is that correct? 2) If I use the polished chrome Renovation Kit (RP54870) then tile/wall will not be damaged at all? Is this the only way to change trim with no damage? If this is correct, can you please explain what else I need in polished chrome to change everything (arm, showerhead, spout, overflow, drain). Are there specific models of these that only work with the 600 series as well? If so, model numbers would be great. If I want to also add a handheld to my setup, then how would that work? Thanks so much, Lenora
Asked by: Lenora
Dear Lenora, Thank you for your question. In order not to change the 600 series valve assembly, behind the wall, yes you would use the Delta Renovation Kit RP54870. The Renovation kit comes with all of the internal and external parts for the handle/valve area only. The shower arm, head, flange and tub spout would need to be purchased separately. Any of our Delta shower arm, head, flange and tub spout will work with this kit. To add a handshower to your unit, we would recommend adding a shower arm diverter, either model 50560 or U4920-PK . Then any Delta handshower of your choice can be installed with your unit. Best Regards, Tanya Delta Consumer Response Specialist Consumer Care Phone: (800) 345-3358

My 600 series shower head is leaking. Would this kit solve this problem? Is there a separate cartridge I would need to buy?

Is there a way to know if this is a shower valve assembly problem instead? My 600 series is the plastic knob type that pulls up and is about 20 years old.
Asked by: Phil
Hi Phil, Thank you for your question. The RP54870SS is a renovation kit for the 600 series tub/shower faucets that replaces the internal and external parts for the tub/shower control. This kit should stop a showerhead leak. Normally switching out the RP4993 seats and springs and cleaning the ball assembly will stop most leaks in a 600 series without the need for the renovation kit unless you want to update the look of your faucet trim. Thanks, Dave

Do you have to take a part the wall to make this conversion from a push button diverter to spout diverter? It is unclear in your answer above.

Asked by: BE
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # RP54870SS is a renovation kit for the 600 series. If you do have a diverter on your escutcheon plate, you will also need to purchase the RP2865 push button diverter plug and then pick a tub spout that has a diverter included on it. To use this part, you will need to make sure the water is off. After installing the ball assembly, you will need to insert this plug into the hole where the push button diverter was so it will be plugged up.

Is it possible to change Delta antique gold shower head, tub spout, and two crystal ball H/C handles with newer ORB handles.

We built our house in 1987...using Delta shower/tub faucets. They are antique gold with a shower head, tub spout, and two crystal ball twist hot/cold handles. I am updating...but do not want to change custom tile. Is it possible to change out with newer Oil Rubbed Bronze fixtures using same plumbing infrastructure? Everything still works well. It looks like everything utilizes one handle now...but our handles are spread too far apart (8 inches) to accommodate a 4 inch escutcheon
