Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very misleading Top of handle points to wrong water temperature

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Temperature impossible to control Would you like your water blazing hot or freezing cold? With the lever turned to the center amd you turn it 1 mm to the left, and goes to the hottest temperature. 1 mm to the right and it's the coldest. THERE IS NO WARM WITH THIS THING. Delta really needs to do something about this instead of limiting us to just one model or nothing at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great Worked great. The valve is 42 years old when the house was built. Good life service I would say. The kit was easy to install. The bonet was hard to get off. Tried heat from a torch but ended up cutting a groove carefully with a dremel then splitting the bonet with a screw driver as if you twist it with a wrench you will damage the valve assembly if it is tight. Found a plug for the diverter and installed a spout wit diverter in it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Should have used this kit years ago !! Until recently I was not aware of the availability of this kit, so I would keep replacing parts with a third party supplier every six months or so. The kit was very easy to install, the most difficult portion being aligning the face plate bolts to the plumbing screw holes in the wall. After that, you follow the instructions and it is easy. For decades, we had got used to the chrome finish shower valve that came with the house so had to decide to go with the chrome or stainless steel kit, we chose the stainless steel finish - looks great too. Their tech support is excellent too, I just needed to confirm if what I thought during the install was correct or not, and received an email adding to the confidence that I had done the install correctly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect but with a major design flaw I replaced the 20 year old "crystal ball" bright brass shower control as part of the update to our home. The kit was easy to install following the enclosed instructions. Looks much more modern than the original.Moving the handle up turns the water on, moving it down turns it off. Just as one would expect. However, the temperature control is absolutely counter-intuitive. Moving the tip of the handle to the left makes the water hotter, moving the tip of the handle to the right makes the water colder. But, when moving the handle to the left to make the water hotter, the handle is pointing toward the C for cold. When moving the handle to the right makes the water colder, but the handle points toward the H for hot! I reviewed the instructions multiple times and yes, I installed it correctly. Somebody is in for a real surprise (and perhaps a burn) with this arrangement. Please Delta, reverse the letters on the wall plate!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So grateful to Delta for offering this product! Our ranch home, built in the mid-'70's, still had the original 600 Series shower valve & trim. You know the model; the one with the crystal ball that's been around forever. Ours still functioned ok, but looked old and the finish did, too. We were wanting to update our shower & bath fixtures, but our plumbing supply store said we'd have to change the entire valve in order to change to something more modern. Unfortunately, in our case, the layout of our shower did not offer a way to access the valve plumbing from behind (via drywall). Rather, we would have to cut through the front tile. We really didn't want to do this as our tile was perfect. We just wanted a new plate and turn-on handle. The more I thought about this, the more it upset me that there wasn't an easier fix for our situation. Fortunately, a call to Delta's Customer Service solved all our problems. My situation was quickly understood and Delta informed me that this renovation kit was what I needed. The only thing additional we needed to buy was a plug to cap the existing diverter as the new kit doesn't have a diverter button. We then bought a new tub spout with a diverter button to accommodate this change. Plumbers had no problem installing. BUYER PLEASE NOTE: There is a learning curve to overcome with the new on/off lever: the old crystal ball was UP to turn water on, then LEFT (counter-clockwise) for hot water & RIGHT (clockwise) for cold water (as the arrows showed. With the new lever, you lift it up to turn on, then R (clockwise) for hot water & L (counter-clockwise) for cold. Keep in mind that the BOTTOM of the lever goes in the direction of the temperature you're wanting. Sadly, relatives visiting from Europe learned this the hard way and endured several lukewarm showers until they felt they should ask us if our water heater was going out. Several laughs later everyone was brought up to speed. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Delta, for offering this renovation kit for people like us. You saved us a lot of money in plumbing and re-tiling charges which allowed us to put money elsewhere. Only wish you offered the kit in polished nickel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hot & Cold not Reversed I just received item, and it took a few minutes figure it out. You have to let the ball on the tip of the handle guide you. Most people look at the top of the lever and let it guide them (this is wrong). If you swing the bottom of the lever to the left it will be hot, to the right it will be cold.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Rejuvenation Upgrade! Looks fantastic, but a little difficult to upgrade. Had a 28 year old Delta crystal knob 600 system with push button diverter built into faucet valve. Took a little more work than expected. Had to replace push button diverter with brass plug. Now diverter built into new spout. Solid construction. New ball valve with seats. At first a little confusing on which way to turn handle. It should have some kind of arrow or mark at the top to point to H and C. The actual valve turns in the same direction as old valve, but you are turning it from the distal end. In the end, it works great and looks great. more modern.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Handle won't tighten! Bought two of these recently for 2 showers and one works great!! The other loosens up after plumber adjusts it and seems to be more difficult to adjust from hot to cold and vice versa. We bought these renovation kits to keep from having to install new valves behind existing marble shower walls. Still trying to figure out if this one kit is defective or if more of a plumbing problem!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go with the Delta kit I bought 2 kits from another manufacturer at a lower price and could not get it to keep from leaking into the shower. Went ahead and bought the genuine Delta kits and had no problem with leakage, plus the noname kits had acrylic handles. The stainless handles look much more modern and will not get the green stuff growing in them like the acrylic handles did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Series 600 retrofit Our 22-year-old outdoor shower had started to leak and was showing wear. I searched the Delta website and ID'd this renovation kit. Although it is supposed to allow you to go from the crystal "snowball" knob to the more modern lever, it worked on our current lever install. I could have just bought pieces parts, but why not buy the entire kit and replace all the springs and washers, etc? Very little cost differential. Should be good for another 22 years!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality but... This was really impressive quality, but I would expect nothing less from Delta. It is really heavy duty, and it appears that there are no plastic parts which is something I would expect from a lesser quality plumbing fixture. But, unfortunately I could not use it because our existing plumbing was so old that our old valve broke as my contractor tried to install this renovation piece. I can't really return it because it had been opened, so I am saving it for when I renovate the other bathroom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and attractive update to old Delta "crystal ball" shower control This Delta shower renovation kit is an easy way to update those old Delta shower controls to a more modern look. The internal function of the valve gets new valve seats and springs to go with the new control ball that fits the modern handle. This kit did the trick after several attempts to find retrofit handles at the local home improvement store which needed to be returned because they did not fit. It is well worth the investment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Conversion I replaced a brass crystal knob faucet with this conversion unit. The conversion was easy. My only problem is that the lever handle seems counterintuitive for hot and cold. With the old faucet, you turned the knob clockwise for cold. With the lever handle, clockwise is for hot. Since the H and C markers are on the top of the escutcheon, one would expect the top of the lever handle to point to the selected water temp, but the opposite is true. When the top of the handle points to C, the handle is turned clockwise, and you get hot water. I realize this orientation may be standard for lever handles. Our kitchen faucet is also clockwise for hot but at least it does not have H and C designations to confuse things.

Q&A

600 series shower faucet leaks under handle ONLY when water is on ?

only leaks when water is running / on. will the renovation kit fix this ? I have the front bonnet nut losose but have not removed it yet.
Asked by: Bob
Hi Bob, Thank you for your question. You can try tightening the adjusting ring that is part of the cap under the handle to stop the leak. If this does not help, you will want to replace the cam assembly. The part number for the cam assembly is RP61 if your faucet has a lever style handle, and RP188 if you have the acrylic knob handle. The RP54870 renovation kit would supply all new internal parts. Thanks, Dave

Are stops built in to the Delta 600 series?

The hot and cold feed into the valve each have a screw driver slotted, threaded bolt in the center of a nut on each side of the valve. Are these stops or some kind of adjusters? Do I back off the nut to turn the screw? Problem is low hot water flow. Cold water O.K. I suspect a blockage on hot water side of ball valve. Thanks in advance
Asked by: Herb
Hi Herb, Thank you for your question. Some 600 series models have screw driver stops on the hot and cold supplies. Please make sure the stop on the hot side is fully opened. Best regards, Jon

Can I replace my existing tub/shower valve with a current model.

I have a 20 year old shower and tub valve, the kind with a crystal ball handle that moves up and down to turn the water on and off, and turns to adjust the temperature. The valve still works fine, but it is in shiny brass and we would like to convert to stainless or brushed nickel. I am looking for a replacement valve that can use the existing valve body so the conversion can be made from the front without tearing out drywall to access the interior plumbing. Most of the current valves use a lever handle, and I would like to know if I can install one of these in the existing valve body. Volume control is desirable but not essential. I don't have any identifying information on the existing valve, but it would have been contractor grade from 1992.

Thank you for your question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like you have a 600 series faucet. We do have a renovation kit for that series. Delta Faucet model # RP54870 is available in Chrome, Venetian Bronze, and Stainless Steel. It will include everything but your tub spout, shower arm and flange, and your showerhead.

crystal ball set screw

I have a fifteen year old Delta shower body with push button diverter / its a bath tub installation. The crystal ball has broken. I am seeking a new crystal ball handle. I ordered two replacement knobs for the shower body, each supplier sent me a crystal ball with a straight set screw. The ball i seek to replace had a grey nylon insert which seated into the crystal ball. The set screw slid thru the ball ( and nylon) into the valve. The handles i ordered were different model balls and contained no nylon insert. Also the orientation of the handle wasn't quite the same as what i seek to replace. Can anyone tell me where i can get this old handle, screw and nylon? The

Hi Larry, Thank you for your question. If you must lift up on your knob to turn the faucet on, you will have a 600 series faucet. The acrylic knob handle for this model is the RP17451. This knob is available to order on deltafaucet.com. http://www.deltafaucet.com/repairparts/details/rp17451.html Thanks, Dave

Is stainless similar to brushed nickel in appearance? Also, which diverter tub spout do you recommend as part of this renovation?

Asked by: LHLTN
Thank you for your question, LHLTN! The Stainless Steel finish is almost identical to the Brushed Nickel finish. Any diverting tub spout will work with this kit; however, it will depend on your existing installation. We advise checking the installation methods required for your tub spout options before making a selection. The RP19820SS is similar in style to the original Delta 600 series tub spout but must slip onto 1/2" C.W.T. https://www.deltafaucet.com/parts-product-detail?modelNumber=RP19820SS Best regards, Edward

Renovation Kit - 600 series shower with "ball" handle

I'm wondering if there is a similar 600 series renovation kit that has the clear plastic ball handle, like this one (Knob - RP17451) rather than a chrome lever as is shown in this kit? Ideally if it came in Stainless/Brushed Stainless rather than chrome, that would be great! My valve is definitely a 600 series, but it's a standalone, walk-in shower; home was built in approx 1986.
Asked by: Dave
Hi Dave, Thank you for your question! The RP54870 600 series renovation kit only includes the lever handle. You would have to order the RP17451 knob handle and RP212 ball assembly separate. Best regards, Brandis
