REVIEWS
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Sailing Following a Careful Disassembly I rebuilt our 1987 acrylic knob Series 600 shower valve using the RP54870 Conversion Kit (in Chrome finish). As per "Chris H" review, I had also bought an RP77739A kit "just in case", as we had the diamond-shaped stem that he mentions. However, I found we did not need the additional kit to complete our repair as the ball included in the RP54870 Kit worked just fine for our application. A note of caution - many people have posted online about how they broke the shower valve body when attempting to remove the old Cap Assembly (5) because it was stuck. Apparently it's not difficult to twist and break or distort some hidden tubes which are part of the valve body inside the wall. I was fortunately able to unscrew our Cap Assembly quite easily. In fact, I checked it by giving it a quarter turn before ordering new parts. Once the parts arrived, I shut off the water supply and carefully disassembled everything. After disassembly, I wiped down and inspected the metal valve body, including two (stainless steel?) sleeves in the body which house the Seats and Springs (10). I checked for burrs, scratches, deposits, corrosion, or foreign matter. I removed some minor mineral deposits on the exterior threads by wiping them with a cloth. I applied plumber's grease to all new rubber parts, including the Seats and Springs (10). I carefully inspected them after installing to make sure they were fully inserted into the sleeves before attempting the next step. I fit the included Conversion Ball (8) with the 4 Holes (Up) and the Large Single Hole (Down), just as the instructions illustrate. When installing the new Cam and Lip seal (9) over the Conversion Ball, I found that the dark gray plastic seal housing had to be oriented properly to match a raised rib on the plastic with a slot on the right side of the metal valve body's threaded section. Following reassembly, the refurbished valve works very well. It operates smoothly and allows us to select a broad range of temperatures. Hopefully we can enjoy good service for a few more decades now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading instructions The instructions are misleading: RP54870SS doesnt work with existing installations and Delta faucets with #212 ball with diamond stem. I needed to buy Delta RP77739A kit to get it to work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Misleading "H" and "C" markings on the plate I purchased RP54870SS to retrofit my old Delta leaking faucet. I folowed the instructions and the installation went good (no leaks), but when I turned the handle clockwise where "C" (cold) mark on the plate is, the hot water came out. When I turned the handle counterclockwise to "H" marking the cold water came out...I checked the instruction and section 9 says: " 9. Verify that hot water comes out of the valve when the lever handle is turned fully clockwise." So I did it corectly. There's a discrepancy between the plate markings and the valve operation. I'll give 2 stars for the quality materials through and I'm looking for stickers with "H" and "C" to correct the plate markings to match the valve operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keep an old Delta 600 shower valve setup alive Perfectly designed to refurb the old Delta 600 tub and shower valve, provided that you can get the previous parts to come loose. All the visible parts are metal, rather than plastic. Yeah! Warning: Getting the old outermost metal cap unscrewed from the valve body can be difficult because of corrosion. Forcing it loose with hard pressure using a wrench will cause a disastrous water leak behind the valve, inside the wall, and unless your house is unusual, the only way to stop the leak will be to shut off the water to the entire house. Then you will be faced with having to get into the wall and replace the entire valve and valve body. Your refurbishing kit will not fit the new valve, since it is designed to fit the old valve. So, then you will have to also buy a new trim kit in addition to the valve body and new valve. (Tip: When I had this problem some years ago, I installed shutoffs for the shower lines while the water was turned off, so that the water could be turned on to the rest of the house. But then my water lines were available for access in the basement. Without such access, you'll have to cut a hole in a wall or ceiling to get at the water lines.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delta faucet 600 series replacement. This Delta replacement faucet handle for 600 series faucet is a great upgrade. Also the instructions are written so almost any one can do the replacement.
Date published: 2023-08-28
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Delta discontinued important components I sent photos of my existing trim to Delta, and this was recommended as the replacement. Unfortunately, the escutcheon plate is not the deep kind in my existing trim, and the kind in this kit is not deep enough. Even more unfortunately, Delta *discontinued* the deep escutcheon plates. So what could have been a simple shower upgrade project within my carefully saved budget now will not happen, because I would have to remove and redo my entire shower - including permits to change the plumbing to work with shallower escutcheon plates. This poor review does not reflect on the Delta customer service reps, who tried to be helpful. It is only about the incredibly inconsiderate decision by Delta to discontinue the deep escutcheon plates with no regard for their customers.

Will this work with the 600 series round stem?

I have a Delta Brilliance Polished Brass shower and tub spout with pull down diverter that seems to be a 600 series with what Pfister's Universal Trim Kit says is a "round stem." It's like the one pictured, but instead of the circle piece with the slot in it, there is a circle piece with a triangle. The water turns on by lifting the handle, and adjusts hot or cold by moving the handle side to side. Will this kit work with that? And what kind of tub spout can I use to replace the pull down spout? I'm trying to renovate to a different color.
Asked by: Joby
Hi Joby, Thank you for your question. The RP54870 600 series renovation kit comes in chrome, brilliance stainless, and venetian bronze finishes. The kit will come with the necessary parts to convert from the acrylic knob handle to a lever style handle. We do not recommend using competitors parts with our faucets and doing so will void the product warranty. The pull down diverter tub spout is available as the RP17543 in the chrome and brilliance stainless finishes. Thanks, Dave

Does the renovation kit work with the 600 series shower faucet that came with a metal handle?

I believe that my shower faucet has the RP70 stainless ball in the valve and not the RP212 that the kit references. Is the RP20111 a replacement or upgrade for the RP70? I am pretty sure the valve body is the same. Thanks

ow to convert from push-in diverter to tub spout diverter?

I have a 600 series faucet with the crystal ball. If I use this renovation kit RP54870, is there anything else I need to do to convert it to a tub spout diverter other than just buying RP19895 and the plug cap RP2865. Any plumbing additions or alterations or just screw on new tub spout?
Asked by: Julie
Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # RP54870 does include everything needed to upgrade the 600 series faucet except the showerhead, shower arm, shower flange and tub spout. If you do have a diverter on your escutcheon plate, you will also need to purchase the RP2865 push button diverter plug and then pick a tub spout that has a diverter included on it.

Need more than the 600 rennov. kit offers

I also will need the shower arm, drain, flanges, tub overflow disk, etc. Do I buy all those separately and does delta have them...or are they generic? Would those also be available at a store like Home Depot or Lowes?
Asked by: Babs
Hi Babs, Thank you for your question. Delta Faucet model # RP54870 is the renovation kit for the 600 series faucets. It is everything that you will need at the valve and does not include the tub spout, shower arm, shower flange, or tub drain. You can pair them with any of our showerheads and tub spouts or tub drains by matching the Chrome finish. Check with your local retailer or wholesaler for a wide variety of choices. Thanks. Jody

What part do I need to fill the gap shown in the photograph?

I recently submitted a question to Delta inquiring if the existing acrylic ball on my 1600 series shower faucet could be replaced with an ADA compliant lever. Thank you for your advise and guidance. The lever (RP48717) fits and accommodates my needs very efficiently. However, there is still a problem. In the attached photograph, you can see that there is a part missing between the base of the lever and the hole in the escutcheon. The distance from the hole in the escutcheon to the base of the lever is approximately 1-1/4 inches. What part do I need to fill the gap shown in the photograph?

Use this kit to upgrade Delta 1600?

Can this reno kit be used on a Delta 1600 faucet that uses what appears to be an RP1991 cartridge? Can you replace the cartridge with the ball? If not what valve(s) are compatible w/ this reno kit, as there does not appear to be a trim upgrade in antique bronze for the 1600 faucet.

Re-tiling over existing tiles on shower wall.

I am putting new tiles over existing tiles and this will bring this trim out approx. 5/16". The bonnet nut still shows with about 1/8" clearance behind it and the screws are long enough. The question is; will any of the trim interfere with the movement of the handle and if it does, is there an extension available? The old plastic handle would still work.

What bronze faucet for 4" threaded copper pipe?

I believe we have an old delta 6000 shower/tub combo. We ordered the 34357 but the threaded copper pipe sticks out 4". Can we make this work or do I need another faucet?
Asked by: Steve
Hi Steve, Thank you for your question. If you have a 1/2" copper pipe with a male threaded adapter sweated onto the pipe you can cut the adapter off of the copper pipe, sweat on the RP12307 tub spout adapter that comes with the RP34357 tub spout according to the instructions and install the tub spout. If you have a 4" long threaded pipe you will have to switch the pipe nipple out to a shorter length that will extend beyond the finished wall from 5/8" to 1-5/8" and screw on the RP12307 tub spout adapter and then the tub spout itself. I would like to update and change the color of my two showers from gold to chrome and gold to bronze. This Delta Renovation Kit-600 Series Tub & Shower, including the escutcheon and screw hole locations look exactly like what I currently have. 600 series bath/shower diverter broken

The diverter on my 600 series is broken. It is in the pulled out position, but the water is coming from the shower head and there is a small stream coming from around the diverter when the water is turned on. Under normal function the pulled out position should allow water to come from the bath faucet. What do I need to fix this, and can I use this shower without water damage (could there be leaking behind the fixture into the wall) until I can make the repair? I have a second bath faucet with the opposite issue, broken diverter pushed in, but water coming from bath faucet. I cannot pull it out.

Hi Deb, Thank you for your question. Replacing the RP5649 push button diverter assembly on both faucets should solve the issue. The RP5649 is available in chrome, (BN) brushed nickel, (PB) brilliance polished brass, and (RB) venetian bronze finishes. You may want to remove the large round escutcheon plate on the unit that is spraying the water to make sure it is not leaking into the wall during use. Thanks, Dave

What do I need to change to an oil brushed bronze shower kit?

We have a 20 year old delta shower faucet with a push button diverter on the plate. To turn on the water, you have to lift up on the knob and then turn it for hot or cold. We want to replace it with an oil brushed bronze color, but I cannot find any replacements with a diverter on the plate. Can I change this out or not? If I can, what will I need? How difficult will it be because we don't have access behind the wall?

Hi James, Thank you for your question. To update your 600 series faucet to a rubbed bronze finish you can order the RP54870RB renovation kit. You will need to order the plug for the push button diverter RP2865 to plug off the push button diverter and a diverter tub spout in the RB venetian bronze finish.
