Saved me $$$,
I have had to learn to fix many things since losing my husband in 2006. I was able to follow your instructions and review the schematic for installation and it worked the first time! This saved me $$$ which we all have to convserve in todays economy but I do especially since I became unemployed right after I received the part. Could not find this part anywhere. But found it at this site. The item is a little pricey but I think this company had the best value. Shipping was very fast. Would shop here again

Do you need to turn off the main water switch in the house when you change a delta diverter?
Thank you for your question, Joey! It is always recommended to shut the water off to the unit, room or home when making a repair so as to avoid any accidents. With the handle in the "off" position, you would not necessarily need to shut off the rest of the water supply for this type of installation.

How do you Replace only the diverter
Thank you for your question, Sugriv! To replace the diverter, first turn off the water supplies to the shower. Next, remove the handle, escutcheon screws, and the escutcheon plate. You can then unscrew the diverter with an adjustable wrench and install in reverse order.

Is there a plug available.
I have a diverter on the tub spout and want to replace this RP5649 diverter with a plug. Do you make a plug this size and thread? I went to Lowe's but they didn't have one.
Hi Marty, Thank you for your question. The plug for the diverter would be the RP2865. Your local retailer or wholesaler that sells Delta should be able to order this for you.

I need the part number for multi choice valve with diverter. purchased in the late70's. the body part of diverter has been eaten away, needs replacement. the diverter looks to be RP5649 thank you

Thank you for your question. The valve body with push button diverter is no longer available. We would recommend to replace with a MultiChoice Universal R10000 rough valve with a diverter tub spout assembly.

what is the difference between the rp5649 and the rp5649-3

Thank you for your question. The Delta Push-Button Diverter RP5649 and RP5649-3 are the same diverter assemblies. The RP5649-3 is an exclusive part number for ordering from Home Depot.

just changed push button and it made no change, still have 50% water bypassing
Hi Tim, Thank you for your question. It sounds like there may be some type of debris or bulid up in the valve body that is keeping the diverter from sealing properly. Remove the push button diverter and check the condition of the valve body behind it, remove any debris or mineral build up you may find.

going from tub to shower lose some hot water?
I have a model 600 series Delta shower system. When having the hot water adjusted from the tub spout and then going to the shower head some hot water is lost and you have to add more hot water to the mix?
Thank you for your question. If you have a unit that is not pressure balance, and the water pressure on the cold side is higher than on the hot side, you may need to readjust the temperature when diverting to the shower head. Since the flow through the shower head is lower, there is more back pressure.
