How should I remove the small button that covers the screw on the diverter handle? Our handle came off and I can’t get at the screw.

The buttons on our handles can be removed with a fingernail. There is also a slot where you can insert a wooden toothpick to pry out.

Is there an insert that fits inside of handle? The hole inside seems really big for diverter stem and when I tighten the set screw it make the handle crooked
