Hi Valued Customer, Thank you for contacting us back, I have included the flushing instructions below. To flush the open valve without the cartridge, please follow the directions below. 1) Remove the handle by loosening the set screw on the side of the base of the handle. The set screw is either a 1/8" or 3/32" Allen screw. So, you will need to use the appropriate size Allen wrench to loosen it. Loosen it just enough to be able to easily pull the handle off. * Note. If there is calcium build-up at the base of the handle, it may be necessary to soak it in a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Simply saturate the rag with the 50/50 solution, wrap it around the handle base and place a plastic bag over it. I would recommend do this the night before removing the handle. 2) After removing the handle, remove the trim sleeve. 3) Then you will need to remove the bonnet nut. The bonnet nut is the threaded ring at the valve opening. It unscrews counterclockwise. You will need a pipe wrench or a pair of channel locks. 4) After removing the bonnet nut, you will need to pull the cartridge straight out. You may need a small, skinny bladed screwdriver to wedge in between the lip of the cartridge and the valve to help start it out. 5) Once the cartridge is removed, you will have an open valve body. 6) Next, shut the shower door or curtain and turn the water on to the valve. Water should gush out, much like an open fire hydrant. Have someone observe if there is good water pressure coming out of the valve and let it flush for 30 seconds. 7) Re-install the cartridge and re-assemble in reverse of how it was disassembled. The Tub/Shower should then have a good flow. If it does not, the cartridge will need to be replaced. Please contact us back if you have any questions or need further assistance. Hi Bonnie, I apologize for the issue you are experiencing and I am happy to help you. The issue you are describing is known as "shower rise" or "stacking". This is typically due to using PEX line between the valve and the tub spout. You must use PVC or copper and allow a distance of at least 8" to 18". The inner diameter of PEX line is too narrow to allow the flow therefore causing it to back up. There must also be no drop ear elbows or shark bit fittings as these restrict flow. Dear Jacki, Thank you for your question! I will be happy to assist. Yes, you are able to use this product as a shower only or a tub only. Please keep in mind if you decided to use this with a tub only, the tub spout still has a diverter you will be able to lift up. We recommend using non-diverting tub spouts for a tub only application.
