Delta 144890-RB-I will only work with an older shower valve if you currently have a 1300 or 1400 series currently installed. In order to make sure it is compatible the screw locations would need to be at the 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock positions on the trim plate, and the original cartridge would need to be used. If the tub spout is installed more than 18" away, it can cause shower rise where water also comes out of the showerhead when the tub spout is used. Once these parts are off, you will see a brass stem with a white plastic piece surrounding the brass part. Our Delta Faucet Larkin™ Monitor® 14 Series Tub & Shower With In2ition® In Chrome MODEL#: 144890-I has a maximum flow rate of 1.75 GPM @ 80 psi if you are getting lower than the normal flow rate we would recommend flushing the unit. Please see the step-by-step instructions below. To flush the open valve without the cartridge, please follow the directions below. 1) Remove the handle by loosening the set screw on the side of the base of the handle. The set screw is either a 1/8" or 3/32" Allen screw. So you will need to use the appropriate size Allen wrench to loosen it. Loosen it just enough to be able to easily pull the handle off. * Note. If there is calcium build-up at the base of the handle, it may be necessary to soak it in a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. Simply saturate the rag with the 50/50 solution, wrap it around the handle base and place a plastic bag over it. I would recommend doing this the night before removing the handle. 2) After removing the handle, remove the trim sleeve. 3) Then you will need to remove the bonnet nut. The bonnet nut is the threaded ring at the valve opening. It unscrews counterclockwise. You will need a pipe wrench or a pair of channel locks. 4) After removing the bonnet nut, you will need to pull the cartridge straight out. You may need a small, skinny bladed screwdriver to wedge in between the lip of the cartridge and the valve to help start it out. 5) Once the cartridge is removed, you will have an open valve body. 6) Next, shut the shower door or curtain and turn the water on to the valve. Water should gush out, much like an open fire hydrant. Have someone observe if there is good water pressure coming out of the valve and let it flush for 30 seconds. 7) Re-install the cartridge and re-assemble in reverse of how it was disassembled. The Tub/Shower should then have a good flow. If it does not, the cartridge will need to be replaced. Thank you for being a loyal Delta Faucet customer.
