How do I tighten the shower handle?

How is the aerator removed from the bathtub faucet? It is certainly not a standard aerator. It appears to be a thin molded plastic insert. My aerator removal wrenches do not work. Is this even an aerator?

I have a delta shower divertir that was installed 20 years ago and works fine. I’m looking to change trim ring and handle without changing valve. Can I use this.

This MultiChoice trim kit can be used with a pre-MultiChoice 1400 series shower faucet. The included cartridge will not fit the older valve. I currently have the Delta Monitor in gold finish and would like to change to the Matte Black T14032-BL. Will this work? It appears to have the same screw location.
