Q&A

Looks like there is a swivel at base of faucet. So do you pull the handle out for on, toward you for cold and away from you for hot? How much clearance do you need at the back to turn hot fully on so the handle doesnt hit wall or backsplash behind it.

Asked by: GAGG
Hi, GGGA! Thank you for your question. The Delta 9178-AR-DST Faucet swivels 360 degrees at the high arc spout. The handle turns on and away from the faucet for cold and the handle turns back for hot water. We recommend a minimum 2 1/2" (64 mm) clearance to back splash. Best Regards, Rosanna

How do I get into the faucet to adjust the gear-like piece that adjusts the temperature? The water gets scalding hot.

All our other faucets in our house don't get as hot as our kitchen. The cold water never really gets that cold either.
Asked by: Charlotte
Hi Charlotte, Thank you for your question. To adjust the Handle Limit Stop, remove the red/blue button, loosen the set screw with an 1/8" Allen wrench, and pull off the handle. The red switch on the top of the cartridge can be flipped to the right to limit the range of the handle on the hot side. While this can be done without turning off the water supply, we recommend to turn them before disassembling the faucet. Best regards, Jon

What is the difference between the "Arctic Stainless" and "Stainless" finish? Are both products made of stainless steel? Is one more durable?

Asked by: alevine
Hi Alevine, Thank you for your question. The Artic stainless finish will have a blue tint to it, while the stainless steel will have a gold tint. Both finishes are durable and warrantied for the life of the faucet to the original purchaser. The faucets are finished in stainless steel, not made of stainless. Thanks, Dave

Pull down sprayer

Does this model have or do any delta pull-down faucets (with the magnetic feature) also have a sprayer that has an on-off button? What I'm looking for is a pull-down which has both the magnetic feature AND spray with on-off switch and aeration options. Thanks.
Asked by: BVK
The Leland faucet has a selector switch for aerated spray or full...and the spray isn't a wide spray meaning it's very controlable even when not pulled out of the magnetic base. Included in the box is a tool for removing the aerator portion for cleaning of calcium/lime deposits. Suggest using vinegar for the disolving of these deposits and not a "lime away" type chemical. I don't know if the finish would be harmed by the "lime away" product but I'm not willing to experiment.

Finish protection for arctic stainless

Is there any protective finish that can be used for the arctic stainless (Leland)? Wax or a synthetic coating?
Asked by: aclmark
Dear Aclmark, Thank you for your question. Delta does not recommend and advises that no polishes or coatings should be used on any of our finishes. The cleaning care directions from the warranty states: Always blot dry any water from faucet surface. Allowing water to evaporate on the surface can lead to build up of mineral deposits. Cleaning with a damp non-abrasive sponge and buffing it dry with a clean soft cloth should help keep your product looking beautiful. To remove water spots, use warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Hard water stains may be removed using a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water. Make certain that you rinse thoroughly with water afterward. If additional cleaning is required, all of our finishes may be cleaned with the following household cleaners: Formula 409® Antibacterial All Purpose Cleaner, Fantastik® All Purpose Cleaner, or Windex® Original Glass Cleaner, when used according to the manufacturers' instructions for use. Avoid using the following which can damage your finish: Avoid industrial cleaners and abrasive cleaners, such as those used for toilet bowls, green Scotch-Brite heavy duty scrub sponges, Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner and Lysol Basin Tub, Soft Scrub, and Tile Cleaner. Avoid products that state on the label that they remove tarnish and rust, and those containing hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and/or phosphoric acids and caustic agents. Avoid harsh abrasives, coatings and/or polishes. Avoid bleach-based cleaners. Best regards, Tanya

Hi! If mounting directly to the countertop, does the handle need to be mounted to the right as shown in all the photos?

Asked by: Jerry
Hi, Jerry! Thank you for your question. We recommend installing this faucet with the handle on the right. You may install it with the handle on the front or left side, but the temperature adjustment will be opposite of the standard operation for single handle faucets. You could compensate for this by swapping the hot and cold supply lines under the sink. However, the red/blue button on the handle will no longer indicate the correct temperature. We are having a problem with the handle not returning to the full off position. It didn't do this when we first installed it. Now we have to carefully wiggle it back and forth to make sure it is fully off. Is there a way to take apart the main valve?

Asked by: Gayle
Hello, Gayle. Thank you for your question, and I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing a leak from your Delta faucet. We recommend to clean the bottom puck on the valve cartridge assembly and retighten the bonnet nut to stop the leak. To do this, turn the water off at your shut off valve. Remove the handle. Unscrew the bonnet nut counterclockwise. Pull the valve cartridge out and clean the bottom puck on the valve cartridge assembly. Reinstall the valve cartridge assembly and retighten the bonnet by turning clockwise, to the right. Install the handle back on and turn the water back on. Test the faucet. If the faucet still leaks, we recommend to replace both the valve cartridge assembly, RP50587, and the bonnet nut, RP51503. Best Regards, Rosanna

Reversibility

The staff’s answer to the question of installing the Delta 9178 SS DST backwards so the handle is on the left says the logo will be facing the back. There is no logo showing on the Delta website photo of the faucet. Also, do I assume correctly that this reversibility to the Delta 9178 AR DST as well since the "AR" refers to the finish?

The spec indicates a min clearance of 2.5 inches from center of hole for faucet to backsplash. I only have 2 inches.  Why is 2.5 inches needed since the handle goes forward and not back? Will 2 inches work?

Asked by: Bridget
Thank you for your question, Bridget! The minimum clearance to the back splash is typically suggested for lavatory models with lift rods or for models where the handle does reach backwards. This is still suggested for maximum comfort and ease of use with the handle; however this model can still work with only 2". Best regards, Edward
